now wood has gone back to albion we need another striker to battle for a place with king and zigic. I dont think Rooney is good enough at this level so to me i think we need another striker.

There should be some options availible to chris hughton who would you go for??

I totally agree, I know the system didn't help him, but Rooney looked completely out of his depth on Saturday and looked like a player that couldn't cut the mustard at Stoke

Having him and Zigic as support is really going to pile the pressure on Marlon, so it's a bit gutting that Wood has departed as he was the best of the 3 back-ups and probably more likely to score even though he was enduring a barren spell

Just can't think who we could attract or afford on loan - could do with someone with a bit of pace to play off Marlon tho - a Mark Burchill/Mauro Zarate type

I personally thin Rooney could do well with King up front alongside him, Rooney has showed good signs, we still need another striker regardless but I don't exactly know who we could get, preferably somebody with pace.

Possible strikers we could get on loan from the Prem :

Benik Afobe (Arsenal)
Jason Roberts (Blackburn)
Alex Nimely (Man City)
Mame Biram Diouf (Man Utd)
Will Keane (Man Utd)
Josh King (Man Utd)
Peter Lovenkrands (Newcastle)
Nile Ranger (Newcastle) (although id rather not)
Rob Hulse (QPR)
Ricardo Fuller (Stoke) (would be ideal if fit and possible)
Stephen Dobbie (Swansea)
Somen Tchoyi (West Brom)
Chris Wood (West Brom)
Marc-Antoine Fortune (West Brom)

DJ Campbell? Behind Macheda, Bothroyd, Helguson and Mackie in the pecking order at QPR. Would fit the mould of the type of striker we're missing.

Thought he was injured?

Not sure with QPR though, all depends if their new manager fancies him or not, if he's available, he'd be a good player to have

Thought you weren't keen on resigning former players MF? :fishing:

In all honesty though he wouldn't be bad, he'd bring pace which is the attribute we are missing up front this season

A pub player for me.

Ball never sticks up there, poor in the air, not a presence and commits more fouls than gains (which should be the other way round)

Loan out/Sell Rooney
Bring in a Loan/Jervis or Asante?

my opinion.......

maybe Jervis has gone to PNE for 1 month so Hughton & Co can judge whether he's got enough to be 3rd or 4th choice. Probably to soon for Asante unless he has an awesome time with Northampton.

i do like the sound of DJ Campbell though. Have we got the funds for his loan fee and wages if no one leaves, i doubt it.

We need a pacey striker as the opposition play a high line stifling the midfield. a DJC type player would force defenses to drop off which it turn would benefit Burke, Beau & Redmond.

Nathan Delfouneso. Who cares if he plays for the Villa, he would improve our attack. Whether we would deal with them after the summer is another matter. I would hope having Hughton as manager and the close proximity would outweigh any petty personal feelings amongst the higher ups.

He can hold the ball up, head the ball, he has an eye for goal. Not the paciest striker about but if you give him a good partner he could do well. He actually hits the ball on target unlike a certain somebody. He had a poor miss but that certain somebody has had a lot more bad misses. However, when I see Rooney playing, he doesn't get that many chances himself. I just hope a certain somebody gets a minor injury so he gets the chance to prove himself properly.

Isn't Asante's loan an extremely short one? 28 days, I believe. If so maybe our cash starved club would be better served giving him a go rather than set up an expensive loan deal. I've always felt this season should be about trying to develop the club's long term future and the way to do that is to give the younger players an opportunity.

I'd like to see if we could do a deal with Wolves for Sam Vokes until the end of the season. He has a bit of pace, eye for goal and decent in the air, i agree that Rooney doesn't look capable at this level, would be tempted to ship him out on loan to get confidence in league 1 and bring Jake jervis in for a run in the team or get another loanee in Dobbie at Swansea showed last year he can get goals at this level and doesnt seem to be getting a sniff this year so he and Vokes would be welcome additions for me.

Im not against it if 1. Its realistic, 2. In our budget and 3. Something we need.

The calls for McFadden/Gardner/Jerome etc arent realistic, and out of budget.

Now Mark Hughes is in at QPR, he may bring his own strikers in which means DJ could well be surplus

Also, Ryan Noble has been made available for loan by Sunderland.

He's bagged a load of goals for Sunderland's reserves and has been earning rave reviews up there... its a gamble for us, but could pay off if we could get him in.

There's no way Wood is coming back judging by his twitter posts but CH has said he will carry on regardless with just 3 if he has to...but financially we need to offload Zigic which i know is unlikely.

Like the thought and he is a good kid, but for me, with half a mind on next season and the cash situation , I would rather develop our own players rather than other teams.......... Didn't think much of Jervis but he is doing well at his loan clubs and assante has hit the ground running and has the electric pace we desire.

If we get this this right, then next season ( which ever division we are in) We could have some real players in Butland, Mutch, Redmond, Assante and Jervis and when was the last time we could say that.Even if we did go up , there would still be no money so these players would still be vital!!

Develop our own for long term progress, rather than others for short term results **thumbup

PS

May still see ranger if the ridge deal goes through!!!!!
