Portsmouth were relegated to League 1 today along with Coventry and Doncaster, but what would happen if they were liquidated either before the season ended and were unable to fulfil their remaining fixture or during pre season and were unable to take their place in their new league? Who else would go down (Barnsley), would there be an extra team promoted throughout each league, would a team from the Premier League (Blackburn) be saved? My friend and I could not decide today on what the best or indeed the right course of action would be. feed.back |

If Blackburn were saved there would be 21 teams in the Premier League so that won't happen. Barnsley didn't finish in the bottom 3 so to relegate them would be very cruel and open the Football League up to lots of legal proceedings from Barnsley, so that won't happen. That leaves either: 1) running Division 1 with 23 teams 2) reducing the relegated teams by one from Division 1 down or 3)promoting an extra team to each division to get the required numbers. It would likely be the second one, I reckon. |

It's just a talking point, if you don't want to talk about it, don't come onto a forum. Seems pretty simple to me. It could also have an impact on promotions from the leagues...ours included. You might care then. :break: |

It's a valid point, and one we will probably have to consider over the next few years as I believe more than one club will go under. |

I'm sure I heard on the radio the other day that if Rangers went into liquidation, that the 'phoenix' company rising from the flames would just get a 10 point deduction for the next 2 seasons and 'financial penalties'... I'm not sure if this is just a SFA thing, but wouldn't Pompey just suffer along those lines. They have already been relegated and they are likely to be deducted another 10 points next season already. This is on the assumption that if they did liquidate, that a 'Newco' is formed too... |
