Starting to look forward to agreat summer of sports with the england football team kicing things off next month.

Hodgson picks his first squad next week I am hoping to see some shock ommissions from an ageing squad.

My squad would be as follows:

GK: Hart Foster, Carson

Def: Richards Johnson Cole Bains Cahill Ferdinand Lescott Jones

Mid: Walcott Lennon Young Johnson Gerrard Parker Oxlade-Chamberlain Rodwell

Str: Rooney Carroll Sturridge Defoe

This seems a decent blend of experience and youth which it is imperative we have so that we take a few young lads to bed them in for the wc in 2 years time.

I would agree with that whole squad except Chamberlain and Rodwell.

Rodwell hasn't played enough and doesn't do enough when he does play to warrent a place.

Chamberlain would be Walcott all over again. Are we really going to throw on an un-capped 18 year old to change a game?

Also your squad has only 2 players who can play centre midfield. Lampard should still be there cause he can still do a job.

John Terry should definately be dropped. I think Hodgson's first duty should have been to tell him to do one and that he would never play for England again.

Overall I agree that we need to get rid of the aging deadwood and give our youngsters a chance. All the golden generation gave ever done is fail. They are all terrified whenever they put on an England shirt and if we don't get rid of them the fear will rub off onto the next generation.

I'd definitely take Welbeck and Sturridge to play upfront together!

I really don't want to see another tournament where gerrard and lamps fail as a pairing.

I agree rodwell may not be the answer but we need young legs in the middle of the park and the candidates all have one thing in common no pace. This is why oxlade-chamberlain needs to go as he can play in several positions.

He is miles better than walcott at the same age.

After the last world cup I'm not remotely bothered in either England in paticular or international football in general. It was the most boring, passionless tournament I've ever seen and I don't want to see any more. Up the Blues.

GKs: Hart, Foster, Butland

RBs: Richards, Walker

LBs: Cole, Baines

CBs: Ferdinand, Lescott, Cahill, Jones

CMs: Barry, Parker, Britton, Lampard, Carrick

Wingers/Forwards: Rooney, Sturridge, Young, Walcott, Wellbeck

Big Men Up Top: Holt, Zamora

4-3-3 with Zamora or Holt leading the line, Walcott and Young either side for the first two games and Lampard given licence to roam ahead of Parker and Carrick.

------------------------ Hart
Richards----Ferdinand----Lescott----Cole
-----------------Parker----Carrick
----------------------Lampard
Walcott-------------------------------Young
-------------------------Holt

Then it can switch to 4-4-2 when Rooney is available, with Young left wing, Walcott right and either Holt/Zamora staying in or being replaced with the pace of Sturridge/Wellbeck.

------------------------ Hart
Richards----Ferdinand----Lescott----Cole
Walcott--------Parker----Carrick---Young
---------------Rooney-----Holt

Leon Britton in the squad in case England are a goal up with ten-fifteen to play and need a player in the middle of the pitch who will keep possession and not waste it trying to play Hollywood passes that never come off, Phil Jones in because he can play in so many positions. No Terry because he is a divisive figure regardless of any talents he may or may not have, no Gerrard because of the aforementioned Hollywood passes and his inability to play a disciplined game, no Defoe because he's hardly played for the last six months.

Holt has been fantastic all season and deserves the opportunity to go, Carroll can take over the number 9 role after this tournament provided he maintains his focus and continues to show the form he has over the last couple of games. But two good games should not throw him ahead of Holt who has had an impressive entire season.

Good move by roy to bring in gary neville imo. I think he will be a valuable asset to the england set up.

He seems very astute in understanding tactics and will also be a brilliant intermediate between management and players!

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Neville take over from Mr Roy after Hodgson's stint is over. Young man, knows the game inside out, knows the culture of top level footballers inside out, clearly headstrong and opinionated and not afraid of being outspoken.

Four years 'work experience' under Mr Roy, where the two of them can actually get on and conduct that 'root and branch' reform we were told was going to happen after South Africa, and then hand the Neviller the reins.

Mods can we merge the two threads on euro 2012? I didn't realise there was one going when I made this one.

On to euro 2012 the radio is giving strong hints on the winners and losers to make the squad.

I can't believe ferdinand isn't going this is a shock. For me he is still the best centre back available to england.

Rumours are also suggesting that oxlade-chamberlain is going to be picked. I would be happy with that tbh he looks like a real talent.

I will never forget the day his dad scored two belters against us at home one of the most stunning displays of skill and pace ever witnessed by myself.

Don't forget Fozzy isn't available for England selection, due to his own personal reasons.

That's actually why if West Brom don't want to pay the £6m to sign him up, I don't think Fozzy would mind staying at Blues. He doesn't need to play in the Premier League because he's not in contention for England.

Wishful thinking?

England Euro 2012: Andy Carroll in but Rio Ferdinand out
Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has been included in England's 23-man squad for Euro 2012, but there is no place for Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand.

The 33-year-old is a surprise omission but Chelsea captain John Terry has been named by boss Roy Hodgson.

There are call-ups for uncapped Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy.

Liverpool winger Stewart Downing and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck have also been picked.

As expected, Wayne Rooney is selected despite being suspended for the first two games of England's Group D campaign.

In addition to Carroll, Welbeck and Rooney, Hodgson will take Jermain Defoe as a striking option.

Tottenham forward Defoe has not played a competitive match for England since September 2010.

Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland is among the list of five standby players, which also includes Adam Johnson, Daniel Sturridge, Phil Jagielka and Jordan Henderson.

But there is no place for Manchester United's Michael Carrick as Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker took the central midfield berths.

Ruddy joins Joe Hart and Robert Green in the goalkeeping contingent.

"It's a real honour for me and hopefully it's an indication as to how far I have developed as a player," said Ruddy.

"Playing for my country has been a dream of mine, of course it has.

"I'm under no illusions as to the quality of Joe Hart and Rob Green and that I will be number three keeper. But I'm really looking forward to training with them and getting down to some hard work."

England squad:

Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy.

Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry.

Midfielders - Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.

Strikers - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

Standby - Jack Butland, Phil Jagielka, Jordan Henderson, Adam Johnson, Daniel Sturridge.

Hodgson will hold a news conference to explain his first England squad at 14:00 BST on Wednesday. It will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website and shown on the BBC News Channel.

Got to laugh at downing's inclusion he has been rubbish this season.

Terry over Ferdinand? Downing? Johnson over Richards? No Sturidge? No Walker? Rob Green? Lampard & Gerrard together in the squad? No Crouch? Barry? No Lennon?

My prediction; France 4-0 England.

:banghead:

Once again an England manager fails to make the major changes needed to revamp the whole England set up.

Should of been: Hart, Richards, Cahill, Lescott, Baines, Young, Parker, Gerrard, Lennon, Carroll, Welbeck.

:boohoo:

Also, Jordan Henderson as backup? He has been atrocious, literally, terrible. That choice is the biggest joke of them all. :banghead:

Lowering the fan's expectations??

:D

Ferdinand? I can understand why he's out, he can't seem to string a run together without injury these days.

But Terry? Who has strung runs together is in the worst form of his career, plus the off the field stuff. Don't understand that at all.

Of the ten outfield players that imploded against Germany in the World Cup, nine are in the squad this time round.

Looking forward to it.
