I'm not quite sure why Savage thinks this. Lambert is a good manager and has been a success wherever he has been.

I'd love to see it happen, but it is unlikely.

Lambert has brought in some good players in the transfer market and going by some of the Villa forums, the standard of football has improved from last season.

I think if McLeish had of kept his job, he would have taken them down this season for sure. They were utterly diabolical and they stayed up by default as Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton couldn't put together any sort of good results.

Norwich and Swansea have both lost good managers in Lambert and Rodgers. I expect both of these clubs to struggle this season. It also wouldn't shock me to see West Brom down there now they have lost Hodgson.

Out of the promoted sides, I can see Southampton and Reading being strong on their own grounds, whereas West Ham will probably go through the motions again and struggle. The standard of the football under Big Sam is shocking to say the least, and how they got promoted is anyones guess. There is no skill in long-ball, and they were one of the worst footballing sides I saw us play last season.

It's an odd occurence but quite often the 3rd promoted team does best in the first season up.

So I'd take West Ham as being highest finishers - espescially like Allardyce does know how to defend.
In the Prem **thumbup

Vibrant Villa like, the glow has worn off a bit and Lambert is not totally like the messiah he was 6 weeks ago.
The 'big' transfers haven't happened, just durable workhorses with a touch more flair no doubt and the stunning appointment of a European scout - (old mate of Lamberts) -
two weeks before the window closes.

I can see the Robbieman's logic, an hope he's right :applause:

Villa's squad depth is quite weak so can see them finishing in the bottom half of the table, however they should have enough quality in Bent and Ireland to avoid a relegation fight.

I'm sure all will become clear over the next nine months. Like somebody said above, the quality of Bent and Ireland should do enough to keep them away from the bottom three.

I just think that it should have happened last season. They had an inept manager, useless tactics, injuries to key players, poor signings, yet they still managed to scrape through.

That last minute goal v Fulham where they won 1-0 ultimately kept them up. If that game had of ended 0-0 they surely would have been relegated.

I went to see the Villa play Forest the other week, free ticket and nothing else on.

Without some serious investment their squad is one of the weakest in the division. They have a number of very good players, but an even larger number of hugely average ones. They were insipid on the day. If Bent gets injured for any lengthy period then they will struggle for goals hugely. N'Zogbia looked a shadow of the player he was in a Wigan shirt, Ireland was offering nothing and the defending was by and large shambolic.

I still don't see them going down, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were still in the mix come Easter.

Their fans are absolutely DELUDED. They think because of their MLS games that they are a strong team now... let me tell you, the teams they played weren't even fielding their strongest players and even still put in a half hearted performance. That'll happen when you play a team still competing without looking at Villa as a glamour/attractive match like as if Chelsea or Man U came to play the Fire or Seattle.

Villa will finish somewhere between 10th and 14th, but won't be relegated.

I'm going 14th to 17th.

Poor squad, 3 new additions for c.£6m is it? They have got rid of some big earners, but they haven't replaced them.

Their 2 best players (Bent and Ireland) are confidence players, If both or either lose their form, they will struggle IMO.

This is not just wishful thinking, I don't know one b6 fan who believes they will finish in the top 10, so they're not overly optimistic.

The money has dried up.

The money has dried up.

They've spent £8.8mill so far and recouped £2.5 mill.(Collins)

They have released:
Emile Heskey
Reece Caira
Carlos Cuellar
Connor Taylor

Only one and a half high-wage earners....
the rest are still there, Dunn, Hutton, Ireland, Given and suchlike.

To listen to people like Kendrick or even Nursey, you'd think villa had got rid of shedloads. Only 6 out and 4 in....so far.

And I don't think the quality that has come in is greatly different to the 'quality' that went out.

So yes, I think they will find it hard going. You have to find 3 teams worse than them first.
And on paper that's pretty difficult.

I watched their game V WHU without sound as I was listening to Bluesworld.

They were really poor. This will be a really long year for the Historians.
