As per usual, he blames everybody but himself.

V I'm told that A Mc is thinking of making a managerial comeback and that his starting eleven is likely to include the following in a 4-5-1 formation:

Iscariot J (capt)

Fawkes G; Blunt A; Philby K; Oates T; Turncoat G.

Mone Grabba; C Heat; Turncoat A; Snake A.

Jerome C.

Winning the Carling Cup against Arsenal goes down as my best achievement, either as a player or manager. Then we were relegated. Talk about high to low. It hit me hard.
‘I know you get what you deserve in football but I genuinely felt it was unfair. Injuries had conspired against us. Other things transpired. Sadly, I have to keep them to myself but I’d have left anyway.
‘I had to leave, regardless. My job at Birmingham had become untenable

Yes, he wasn't going to stay - but he still managed to put forward a 'dossier' of players to Pannu and send him on a fool's errand to Holland whilst he tendered his resignation.

I am no fan of Pannu, but the way McLeish went about things was disrespectful at best.

Funny really, how after the Tottenham game it was all talk of having a 'good contract' and facing up to the task ahead, being PUBLICLY backed by the owners to stave off a summer full of press speculation and unrest, having those same owners begin almost immediately to start bringing in players for the season ahead.

And then all of a sudden, after his odds on going to the Villa had dropped like a stone overnight, but that was completely irrelevant to it of course, his position became 'untenable'.

The real tragedy would be if he actually believed it himself.

Much as I admire your loyalty to Big Neck, Mrs F, I should point out that even Hitler had Eva Braun though of course comparisons between a football manager and a would-be world dictator are somewhat fatuous- everybody knows McLeish was far worse ; after all Hitler merely betrayed a bunch of krauts whereas McLeish (spit) shafted BCFC

Fair comments?

So you actually believe that he just happened to realise his position was 'untenable' a week after bringing in three players, and then - and only then - after he had made his proud, upstanding decision to resign, the Villa got on the phone?

And then the Villa paid £2m compensation to Blues out of the goodness of their hearts?

I am sure I could rustle up some magic beans you might be interested in.

Pooley, since when did it become 'official' that Mcleish was the most successful manager in our history? You are mistaking a deeply held belief for some inviolable objective truth. McLeish sucks- I can't prove it but I hold to my opinion just as ardently as you seem to hold to yours.

As much as the board take the blame for a lot of the off-field issues, some of you seem to forget that the reason we are a Championship club is largely down to McLeish.

He had the freedom to bring in the players he wanted, even following relegation. Yet he took us down twice playing awful, turgid, anti-football.

Mcleish - won promotion in 2009
- highest top flight finish in 2009/10 since the 1959/58 season
- won league cup 2011

bruce - won promotion from second tier 2002
- won promotion from sectond tier 2007

fry - won promotion from third tier 1995
- won football leaue trophy 1995

cooper - won promotion from third tier 1992

macari - won football league trophy 1991

Saunders - won promotion from second tier 1985

Smith - won promotion from second tier 1980

Goodwin - won promotion from second tier 1972

merrick - won league cup 1963

Turner - won promotion from second tier 1955

Storer - won football league south wartime championship 1946
- won promotion from secont tier 1948

so, out of all of our managers who won something, only 4 won two or more achievements (the same number as eck did)

They were:
Eck
Bruce
Fry
Storer

Now:

bruce won promotion but no silverwear, he finished 5th and got promotion from play offs and then runner up.

fry won promotion from the THIRD tier and won the THIRD domestic cup

storer won won football league south wartime championship 1946 which is something to take on board however Results and players' contributions do not tend to be included in official statistics and it is not really recognised as a 'full' championship due to the limitations of it. following that he won promotion from the second tier in 1948.

Eck therefore by winning thre league cup (the second most important cup in the hieracy of domestic trophies) and promotion from the second tier achieved more than any other manager - by acieving more he was the most successful

simple really

'Simple really.' What are you describing here, Pooley? The issue? Yourself? I'm confused.

Anyone who thinks that McLeish's, Bruce's (second) and Fry's promotions were achievements worth lauding should be reminded that each one of those promotions was necessitated by relegations for which they all were responsible.

Winning the cup; best day of my life.

Finishing 9th; Awesome.

Being relegated twice; Rubbish.

Leaving for the Villa; Ridiculous, Disrespectful and just deluded.

Overall, I dislike the man, but he did bring us the best game I've seen/ been too/ best cup run and for that he will always have a small piece of praise for bringing me that day.

He knew there'd be a furore, but not to the level it was....?
How many derby games did he take charge of for us? Does he seriously expect the people of Birmingham to swallow this rubbish?

Good riddance, football is better off without the likes of him.

Ain't that the word.

He got us relegated twice with some of the worst football I've ever seen, he changed the formation of the team largely because the fans were screaming 4-4-2 at him and then he went to the Villa.

Nice.

And, for the record, and I would never put a dampener on our great day at Wembley, but we had a very easy run-in to the final didn't we. Rochdale, Brentford and MK Dons in the arly rounds, then the worst team in the premiership, West Ham over two legs. Arsenal, even without the injured Fabregas thought they just had to turn up to win it and we were ready for them, psyched to the max..

Anyway, McLeish, top tosser..

Top stuff.

Stretton you're so right regarding the League Cup - we won it despite McLeish. As you say we need to thank the guys who made the cup draws, we also need to thank the 3 senior pros who gave the HT talk against West Ham and finally we need to thank the Arsenal keeper and defender for finally handing the cup to us.

I loved it but it was despite of McLeish.

But his best "achievement" was relegating us twice. What an a***hole and what a record.

McInept the boring b*****d.

V --- why have you screwed up my Sunday morning? What have I done to deserve that?!!!

:banghead: the totally boring and inept **** who relegated us twice and bored the a**e off so many that our attendances are now at a record low. All those bored fans will have found something new to do on Saturdays and could well never be seen again at St Andrews.

I'm off to be sick - and I was in such a good mood and was about to tuck into the Sundays. Don't feel like reading now.

V, I'll get you back.

Ah it was a great day! We were very proud of our boys Eck & Baz that day (& the rest of them). Often it is said that scottish footy is rubbish & Scots canny make it in England so it was a real GIRUY to the critics! Good memories!

Nowt to do with McLeish.

I agree about Barry though. He was one of the senior pros who gave the HT talk against West Ham....and of course marvellous performances on the pitch.

We miss Barry.

I honestly wish we still had him, he might have been defensive but at least we would not have conceded five a home.
