Having watched the full game (live on Setanta here), the referee was pathetic.

Zigic deserved a yellow card.

The failure to award so many fouls was pathetic.

And Clark from Huddersfield saved the goal with his hand/arm (around the 90th) with most players calling for the penalty. It was so clear and the linesman had to see it too but nothing. Why?

Tbf the linesman was never going to see it, it was the opposite side of the box with players in the way. Still not too sure if it was handball anyway, but Burke was chopped down just before that and that definitely was a penalty. Zigic's was a high tackle yes, but more or less in control (as much so as a Zigic tackle can be) and with one foot. Certainly a yellow, definitely not a red though, I think Zigic's tackling style of limbs everywhere counted against him really.

If we had a team with a cohesive gameplan and fire in their bellies, we wouldn't even be discussing the ref.

Why are you even involving the ref with another woeful performance? The ref had nothing to do with us losing...............try looking closer to home, give you a clue, initials LC!

Any D'Urso was the ref who sent Cisse off and the red was overturned. Wonder if Clarke will appeal this one?

No point in scapegoating the ref. Yes, it was a harsh decision, but we were losing 1-0 and playing badly at the time, and we lost 1-0 from playing badly at the end. Had we banged in some goals and defended properly, Zigic's red card would be a minor irritation at worst.

If a similar tackle to Ziggys had been carried out on a Blues player the crowd would have demanded:
Answer 1 ..... No action
Answer 2 ..... Yellow card
Answer 3 ..... Red Card.

The worst referee ever is and will forever be David Elleray for that afternoon in Wales.

What he did that day was bordering on criminal.

Not even Uriah Rennie managed to achieve incompetence on that scale.

Didn't he say something along the lines of it not being fair to award us the second penalty? It was a cast iron pen iirc and he was completely in the wrong.

If we'd lost against arsenal there would have been another huge talking point re the cast iron pen and sending off that wasn't given. If the gunners were on the attack and that happened we all know what the ref would have done.

While I agree he was goddam awful I think there is no way the ref can be blamed for our defeat which would have been heavier but for the kid in goals.

Elleray bottled it, pure and simple. Completely and utterly bottled it. Francis was never the same after that match.

For the Arsenal one, in Mike Dean's defence the flag had gone up for offside before Bowyer was brought down. So the fact that he was clearly on, tragically, made it immaterial. I think Dean would have given it though, there is absolutely nothing else he could've done, Szczesny was nowhere near the ball and Bowyer was looking at an empty net.

He had a good game that day, in fairness to him. The only real foul up was when Bowyer wasn't allowed back on after having received treatment, following his being fouled. Blues were down a player, despite having been sinned against, Arsenal went up the other end and scored. But again, not Mike Dean's fault. It's just a stupid, stupid rule he has to follow.

He could have over-ruled it but yeah he wasn't at fault..

Whilst D'Urso was dreadful, we shouldnt use his performance as an excuse, as quite frankly, we were 10 times as worse as he was.

Paul Danson.

Funnily enough versus Huddersfield in 1998/99.

Peter Ndlovu.

That is all.

Over ruled his assistant on an offside decision

Haven't seen Zigic's tackle, or his attempt at a tackle, but if it infuriates BLUE KID then I'm happy. :fishing:

As soon as that clown Zigic 'tackled' on the half way line i thought it was a straight red. Couldn't believe the fans clapping him off as he went down the tunnel, why clap a player who's stupidity probably cost us a point..

That game was mentioned in the programme Saturday as being Styles and not being rescinded, but I thought the ref admitted his mistake* and Ndlovu scored twice the next weekend (I could easily be wrong though, I was only 8).

*Before they brought in the stupid rule that if a ref admits in his report that he might have made a mistake he gets automatically suspended for a week.

Wasn't that Rob Styles? but yes a dreadful decision.

Nailed on penalty, Ndlovu gets a second yellow for diving and Huddersfield go up the other end and equalise almost immediately.

Then just to rub it in and prove now badly he got it wrong, the next week the yellow card gets rescinded.

I'm sure it was Danson.

Maybe it was Styles.

What did Danson do? Does anyone remember? I remember hating him when I was a kid for one game against us...

Paul Danson refed the play off semi-final at Preston in May 2001.

Before the game it was agreed to take penalties in front of the empty end if the match went that far. When it came to the pens they were taken in front of the Preston fans. Trevor Francis had a huge row with him, took the Blues players off for a bit but it made no difference. And of course we lost the shoot out.
