Trott thought he had been unfairly given out in the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge, and this is today's statement from the ICC: The International Cricket Council have confirmed that England batsman Jonathan Trott should not have been given out lbw during the first Ashes Test. Trott was initially given not out, but dismissed by third umpire Marais Erasmus when Australia used the Decision Review System. The ICC's said it was one of "three uncorrected errors" at Trent Bridge. "The umpires did a good job under difficult conditions," said ICC chief executive David Richardson. "However, like the players, umpires can also have good and bad days but we all know that the umpire's decision, right or wrong, is final and must be accepted." An honest, timely and clear statement. Well done the ICC. Why are the FA, the League and FIFA all so coy about making similar statements and thereby end up having all of the paying customers on their backs continually, and them continually questioning the ability and decisions of referees as a result? Tennis and Cricket are so much better served by their governing bodies, whether in technology supporting decisions or in this matter. Football is the poor relation in so many ways, but in particular in not having honesty, openness and fairness at the heart of their game. |

Spot on, Lewis. And I think you're right to point the blame at the governing bodies. I think most referees would actually welcome the opportunity to make statement about controversial decisions following a game. I know from my time refereeing, that if you felt you got a decision wrong, you'd feel awful and want to at least explain your rationale. A lot more respect could be garnered that way, too. However, FIFA seem to want to dehumanise officials as much as possible and that's only made worse by the organisation maintaining their 'secretive', 'corrupt' and 'bully-like' old boys club image which avoids communicating with fans as much as possible and has a reluctance to discuss the issue of making football more transparent all-round. |

Spot on Lewis. I think a big factor is the FA is now second-fiddle to the Premier League. Uefa sucks up to the Big15 and FIFA is just a bunch of corrupt numpties who suck up to the biggest bribe. We also have to look at the player - there is hell of a difference between a tennis player/rugby player/cricketer than a footballer. Suarez, Rooney, Barton etc etc. If a Trott-type of [bad] decision was made during a football match there would have been hell to play by the players, coaching staff and manager, giving little space for the FA to give a response like the ICC's response. |

spot on lewis I`m just about to write to greg dyke the new ceo of the FA, concerning players cheating & managers blaming refs, two things that I hate. The Ref imho should be treated almost as a diety as in rugby and not as a village idiot as in football. KRO |
