38 years ago today one of music's most talented yet eccentric musicians was tragically lost. Has there ever been a better drummer? Baba O'Riley must be one of the all time classics.

RIP Keith Moon.

He and Ollie Reed were great mates: Some of the things I've read about that they were supposed to have got up to!

Moon's lack of timing often frustrated Towshend and Entwhistle but it actually helped to create the unique and raunchy Who sound.......Townshend once jokingly dubbed him "the worse drummer in the world "

One of his favourite antics was blowing up hotel toilets with cherry bombs and other explosives and his drinking bouts and parties were notorious especially for 60's standards.......even the Muppet character 'Animal' was clearly an animatronic reference to 'The Loon'

The Who are one of my favourite bands .......You can really appreciate Moon's style on 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and also on their superb album 'Quadrophenia', their best IMO

Moon played the vocal part of the 'Bell Boy' .....brilliant

RIP

What a funny story this was

Quote:

The London 2012 Summer Olympic Committee contacted Curbishley about Moon performing at the games, 34 years after his death. In an interview with The Times Curbishley quipped, "I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old' ... If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him

Moon was average at best, it was his antics away from the kit that made him what he became, and to say his death was a tragedy is misguided, it was selfish over-indulgence is what it was.

As for great drummers, if you like watching talent then watch Grohl playing Stay Away during his days with Nirvana, or better still, watch the whole set that they played at Reading in 1992. Now that is drumming..

Good choice Kev. Curtis would have had his 60th birthday last month had he not left us.

Simon Kirke (Free and Bad Co ) , John Bonham (Led Zep) and Roger Taylor (Queen) are among my favourites

Don't know his name but one of the greatest ever drum riffs was on here

Radar Love - Golden Earring

An absolute classic rock anthem of the 70's

Did he take up drumming because his brother was so much better than him at tennis?

Keith Moon and The Who just worked really well together **thumbup , but, drumming, like most musical tastes is subjective, so I couldn't say who I think is the best.... only who I like
