Blimey, I remember this bloke so well from my days in Brum and the UK Has died aged 78 .....they're dropping like flies this year aren't they ?? Roll on 2017 http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-38294661 He had such a distinctive soft Scottish accent , did a great job of the weather on BBC as well , he did resemble Jonathan King as well I thought I see Moira Stewart is still doing the rounds though, she is now 67 , 'Mrs' used to comment how serious and glum she always was reading the six o'clock news, well of course I told the wife that headline news tends to be serious and can make you glum .....the news in the UK always had a more serious feel about it than the US, that's how it should be but of course there's nothing wrong with some welcome good news either or some stories of courageous folks , heroes and many other 'do gooders' RIP Ian ..... Edited by PartisanBCFC, Dec 14 2016, 05:37 AM.

Another famous weather forecaster on the Beeb was Michael Fish, remember him ?? earned notoriety though for telling folks back in October 1987 not to worry when that violent storm (wasn't actually considered a Hurricane as it didn't originate in the tropics but packed the same kind of punch) hit Southern regions of England and 18 people died because of it .. I remember that like it was yesterday too , was doing a charity walk that very week from Brum down to Cardiff and one of many fellahs in the party was from South West London, Wimbledon area I think, he said he had phoned his 'Mrs' and the storm had taken his cast iron front gate with it and his roof suffered some damage :crying: |

Bless Ian. A most unobtrusive and Genuine Met Office forecsaster. They all used to be 'ugraded' to TV pesentation, from the Met Office - they got a clothes allowance as per Civil Service Regulations. Some of them tried to reach stardom/celebrity....when I saw Ian doing the Forecast I felt relieved. Straightforward and inclusive - always. Most often blooming wrong on the Long Range...5 Days...:-) Bless Ian...R.I.P |
