Poor Season so far !; Blessing in disguise ?

I was thinking about the season so far and the position we are in (almost a relegation battle) and feel that come the summer that this may come as a blessing in disguise.

First off if our season could be replayed without the injuries I feel a top ten position would of been in the offing but due to injuries we have invariably had to play our squad players almost week in and week and week out, and although these are honest proffessionals who work hard - unfortunately they just havent cut the mustard this season - mostly because I feel the league again got stronger this season. So bearing this in mind I am hoping that this is taken on board and we strengthen our squad somewhat in the summer with some quality signings - whether they be free or otherwise.
Obviously we would also have to say goodbye to some of the players that have stood by us in recent years but I feel it is time to move onwards and hopefully upwards.

Please dont assume I am having a whinge because I'm not and neither am I wishing for our poor run of form to continue as I am only talking about our season to date and what this may hopefully bring about in the summer.

I agree. I think some serious spending has got to be done in the summer. I think Bruce recognises that thoughas he was straight in with the £6 Million offer for Bellamy, it took weeks of negotiating when we spent that kind of money on Heskey.
If I was Bruce I would've tried to buy Pennant as he may go down but we would have secured his servies for the remainder of this season plus 2/3 on top of that.
I trust Bruce, he will do the right thing in the summer and the good thing is, the board will back him to the hilt.

IMO this season has been a blessing in disguise.

It should have reminded a lot of fans that we are not yet the finished article and an odds on top 10 side.

We are still new to this league and have a lot of building to do before we can be classed as European contenders before a ball has been kicked.

Many seem to have forgotten that most of our 1st choice 11 have long tern or niggly injuries that have prevented them having any sort of decent run in the side. Our injuries have been so bad that the players that have been drafted in have now become the 1st choice and have had all the expectancy piled upon their shoulders. Yes, any 1 of them can step into the team and perform well. However, IMO, while making up the main bulk of the team they're not as good as our top players.

The fans needed their feet planting back on solid ground after such a good season last time round.

With a fully fit squad we are a match for anyone. With a few more improvements in the summer, Bruce has shown his ambition by going for a player like Bellamy, we can go even further forward.

Who knows, a few good results, a bit of confidence and some luck we will still make the top 10 again come May.

This club should be run on business lines.
We should not have any sentiment in the boardroom that might make us gamble.
We must not fall in love with blues...we are businessman, and this is business.

So, to get our feet back on the ground argument.....there are clubs below us with bigger capacities, they should be in the prem...we should be back where LOGIC dictates ! The championship.! We can wheel & deal there & pull our financial weight.
If you love the blues you have to gamble at times. You have to come up with a Dugarry, but not in four weeks - we tracked christophe for six months.

All we are doing now is thrashing around in desperation, we sold players we would die for now...for what....£2.5M......what if we could call on purse or horsefield last week? Even John? We depleted our squad & faced another shortage of skill & guts for the second year running.

But its good business isn't it....cut your wage bill, have injuries & then thrash around and become a laughing stock.

I just cannot see your point at all, Purse, Horsefield and stern john all wanted more first team football than we could realistically offer at the time than we could realistically offer them i,e having better first team options and TBH if they were that special then they wouldnt be playing for the teams we sold them to, sure they would of run into brick walls for the cause but premier league football is about more than enthusiasm and guts !

And if you think we should be back in the championship then surely your having a larf ? (unless I have misread your point).

And as for pulling a dugarry out of the hat - bruce tried to do that by getting bellamy, ok he failed but such is life so get on with with it

They all look to have got weaker as have we,seems we never replaced the frenchman! its been downhill all the way, remember the last 10 games of last season.

Good points made......

We could do with a bit of guts now though....

The one thing thats been missing this season has been our never say die attitude at times....

I miss that "in ya face" attitude with our opposition. In truth we did have inferior players that made up for their lack of ability with guts and enthusiasm.

Now we have spent a bit of money on quality some of the ingrediants to our side has been lost!

6 years later and we're still poor

A few candidates to blame for this are :
Carson Yeung - why did he buy the club if he could not afford it
Alex MCleish - not keeping the team up last year and aimed for 17th at the start of 10/11
Sulivan - for selling the club to Carson and his cronies
Can't think of anyone else

But he didn't aim for a Carling Cup win or Europa League either......but we managed both

By the way , we finshed 9th in 2009/10 in the first season after coming back up

What infinitely short memories ?

LOL just noticed that too. He might be the photographer...

And as we're looking at who was to blame...I think Seb Larsson was one of the biggest failures of last season. Quality player, but as each season went by he just faded away. Look at him playing really well for struggling Sunderland and couldn't even do much for Blues in 2010/11.

Scored 2 freekicks this season already hasn't he? 1 would have done for us.

3 free-kicks and 2 from open play i think.

Got 2 from open play for us last season, although he did hit the post like 5 times with free-kicks, not that i disagree that he had a disappointing season last season with his set pieces
