Just got back from the game and i was really impressed with Pennant. I always knew he would be great and tonight he proved it. Any of the people who saw him play and have previously been posting remarks saying Bruce should be ashamed for signing him after recent events, might just now realise, the reason Bruce signed him, was to win football matches, not popularity competions, but if he performs like that whenever he puts on a blues shirt, im sure it wont be long till EVERYONE is behind him 100% week in, week out. He really made a difference, especially in the first half.
Top player! :)

Pennant was awsome in that first half, southampton just couldnt handle him, he was such a threat down the right wing, something we havent had since weve been in the prem.

His cross for Pandiani's goal was superb, he just dug it out from nowhere inch perfect for 'el rifle'

In my opinion we should sit Pennant down tomoro and make him sign a 5 year contract, if he goes to prison for a month or two then so be it, he'll soon be back out and he can be a superstar for us for many years to come.

On ability and talent alone Pennant is worth £5+ million, to get him on a free transfer would be unbelievable.

New boys won us the game tonight, well done and welcome to the Blues, l was 1 who supported Pennant, hopefully moving away from London will help sort him out. Lets hope the courts give him 1 las chance,it would be a shame to lose talent like that.

No denying he is a good player.

Still think he needs locking up for the protection of innocent road users though.

Pennant is just like SWP in a Royal Blue shirt....
I know the timing is all wrong but could you imagine Pennant on the right and Jose Domingues on the left??
For me with Jose, it was just as much fun to see the crowds reaction when he got the ball as it was to see him taking the mick out of the opposition....
Last night for the first time since then, the crowd reacted the same....
As soon as Pennant got the ball they all started to stand up because they didn't want to miss a second!
Right now I don't care what happens (Well! I do really!)....
This feeling is absolutely priceless!

I've been wanting us to sign Pennant for a long time and am chuffed to bits that he is here. Haven't commented on his private life, i will leave it to the courts to decide, it is what they are there for. A suspended sentence or a short stay in the clink may well give him the extra kick to make him see sense and sort himself out. The way he was playing last night was like he didn't have a care in the world and long may it continue. Lets hope he emerges as a better person from all this and can sort his head out, it can only benefit us in the long run

i think that if you read those comments again you will no doubt see that the wrtier has been seriously affected by a drink driver. she was stating her opinion based upon her own experiences and not nice ones at that.

personally, i don't share the same viewpoint as her - but then i haven't had a neice knocked down by a driver 3 times over the limit.

Pennant has the potential to be a class player and had a fantastic game last night but he is also a bloody prat for his car antics. i think it's wrong for you to knock her posting given the circumstances.

given her posting was coming from a place other than football then perhaps an apology wouldn't go amiss.

I think that's a very fair comment. As a footballer Pennant is clearly a great talent; as a human being he currently leaves a lot to be desired. It's up to him to sort himself out, and up to the courts to apply a sentence/punishment they deem fit. If that means he serves time and we lose his services - either temporarily or permanently - then that will be fair and correct.

Pennant was amazing last night. To me he played like he had a point to prove to everyone and he let his football do the talking.

If he does go down for a few months then so be it. I still think we should sign him in the summer no matter what. He has great footballing ability and with him crossing to the Rifle for the rest of the season, I dont see us having many problems.

I hope the court see that Pennant has made a move away from London and is trying to make something of himself, give him a very long driving ban, a huge fine and a suspended sentance.

I was at the game last night and thought pennant was amazing in the first half,He really could turn our season around.
The way he goes past people with ease was scary and he can cross a ball .

i am also old bill though and i dont think he will escape a prison senrence.

I do hope i am wrong this time though.

As for El Rifle

some one said Forsell/Dugga mix

He showed last night that he will cause many a defender to have a few nightmares

We need to sing his name aloud now to show him this is a better place to be than Italy

Pennant is a real gem. If we can keep him at Blues he'll become a legend. You only need to remember his assists to Viduka and Smith while he was on loan at Leeds to realise he's a quality crosser of the ball. |Pacey, tricky, great right foot delivery on the run or from corners/free kicks - in fact his dead-ball kicking is very Beckham-like IMO. Great piece of business if Brucie can pull it off.

Yup,

Plenty of people with consideration for other people on the roads. Lots of people who aren't happy to risk the lives of others for the sake of a couple of pints.

Y'know drink driving is not a soft crime, it's not to be taken lightly. It kills. Just ask Lee Hughes.

He's a great footie player (Pennent not Hughes).

But why should that preclude him from justice?

God, enough of this already.

It's down to the court to deal out justice. The whole point of sentencing is to punish, protect the public and rehabilitation. If the court feels the public need to be protected from Pennant, then he'll receive a jail term - if not, he'll receive a fitting punishment to suit what he actually did.

Either way, he'll get a chance to make good and if there's people to encourage him, it's more likely that he'll seriously learn from this.

I agree with Blooboy - if it was down to the Tabloid readers, half the country would be sent down for behaving like a prick on one occasion or another. I'd much rather jail terms were dished out to people who deliberately and maliciously intend to harm others than for people who are just idiots and fools. Pennant knows this is 'last chance saloon' time - I'm sure he has more than one person reminding him of this fact over and over again. Let him make amends for chrissakes and let the justice system do their job rather than all of us making judgements.

Hope you get community service, Jermaine, and I hope you realise the chance you've been given to grow up and prove yourself worthy of our shirt! I'll cheer you forever if you do!

Pennant was a young lad on a lot of money in the capital, Wenger probably had more important things on his mind than Pennant, here he will get the attention and guidance he needs from Bruce.

He needs a sentance, as much as I want him to be playing for us to teach him a lesson and hopefully he will learn from it and mature under the guidance of Bruce

I disagree - I don't think a couple of months' time inside with muggers, rapists, etc will have any positive effect whatsoever other than to harden him towards what he has done. I think the threat of a longer term jail sentence along with some sort of real 'community service' will hit home harder when it comes to rehabilitation. I also wouldn't give him any longer than a 3 year driving ban. Anything longer than that and there's nothing to aim and strive for, it's easier to disregard it. Where are his parents in all of this?

He's been a prat. The moment he truly realises that he's been a prat is the day he moves on! Whether the courts set that at 10 years or 1 year has no bearing on when he will realise that. I'd rather he see the point he can drive again as something that's achievable and something to be worked towards than something that seems so far off, it's a myth.

He needs some firm guidance in all of this and for everyone to be telling him that this is his very last chance and that he needs to grow up and stop believing all the 'money means you can do anything and get away with it' mentality. Hope he's got the brains to realise that.

You accusing me of reading tabloids?

How dare you!

>;o)

You're absolutely right.

I'm not asking for him to be hanged, but for justice to be done. I think he deserves whatever the courts hand out. They will be better informed than I on his case.

However, my personal feelings are that driving while drunk is an intention to do harm. We are not living in an age where anyone can claim they are not aware of the risk of drink driving. Therefore, any harm resulting from this action is premeditated. His habitual driving offences put people at the risk of harm. If the courts feel this is a thing of the past he may get a suspended sentence and/or community service.

But as a vulnerable road user who has to share the roads with maniacs who induldge in this behaviour, I hope the courts err on the side of saftey and lock him up for a short spell.

Once he is aware that the good people of this country are not going to put up with this antisocial behaviour, he can (hopefully) look forward to a long relationship with BCFC.
