All week we had the local news making public warnings of what would happen to anyone caught singing or ssssss.....they would be arrested including home fans. Despite being a neutral I have to admit I loved the defiance of the spurs fans today. I asked a few before the game for their thoughts on the issue and it was never in any doubt despite the PC responses what was going to happen. Taking a negative slur and turning it into something to be proud of is what football banter is all about. We do it with Small Heath Alliance. That believe it or not for the younger lot use to be used by the vile against us as an insult. On the whole football has improved tremendously for spectators of all ethnicities but surely in this case it's going too far? I don't want to appear indifferent or disrespectful but where do you draw the lines on issues like this? Especially where it is embedded into the psyche of fans to sing what they do / want! I don't understand what the problem is. Tottenham fans showing they're proud to be of a Jewish background/culture. Nothing to be ashamed of. It's another case of our country trying to Politically Correct again as usual. Anything that is deemed offensive to anyone these days is banned for some reason or another these days. |
