Not like Craig Bellamy LONDON : Newly-appointed Newcastle assistant manager Terry McDermott has told Craig Bellamy to forget about returning to the north-east club after the Wales striker left an abusive message with one of his old team-mates. Bellamy had a spectacular fall-out with boss Graeme Souness, accusing the Scot in a television interview of "lying" after the former Blackburn manager left him out of his side to play Arsenal last month having accused the Wales striker of feigning an injury in training. On transfer deadline day Bellamy was loaned to Scottish champions Celtic for the rest of the season but hinted he would still like to play for the north-east giants. However McDermott, a midfield colleague of Souness's in the all-conquering Liverpool team of the late 1970s and early 80s, said there was no way back to St James' Park for Bellamy. "Some of the things said by Craig Bellamy not just last week but throughout his whole period at this club have been disgraceful," the former Newcastle player, who returned to the north-east giants coaching staff last week, said Thursday. He was particularly incensed by a text message which, according to press reports, Bellamy sent to Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer where the forward accused the ex-England striker of being a "f***ing goody two-shoes". McDermott, now in his second spell on the Newcastle coaching staff after working under Kevin Keegan having previously played for the Magpies, did not name the recipient but said: "I know from personal experience of a voicemail message he sent a senior player at this club because I was playing golf with him when he received it. "That message alone should mean that Craig Bellamy never plays here again." "People who have been at this club for 30 or 40 years have begged me not to let this fella back into the club," McDermott added. "I have no axe to grind with Craig Bellamy, but in the six days I've been here what I've heard means I don't want to meet the guy. "I've never come across so much hatred and unrest over one person. What I've learned (about Bellamy) since I arrived here has astonished me. You cannot have one player thinking he can run a football club." |
