Please do not degenerate this debate into a 'he said, she said' argument. There is an issue here that is important. I understand the feelings of the dissenters but my opinion, for what it is worth, is that their 'holier than thou' attitude is destructive and the improvement of the team should be the communal aim. People like Bruce, Sullivan, the Golds and Brady have reached their current positions due to their talent and business acumen. They did not get there by ignoring news stories and over reacting to individual misdemeanours. They are fully aware of Bowyer's past and have decided, using their valuable experience, that he is the right player to join our club. The previously unprecedented abuse of some players last season has to stop, feel free to voice your opinion but for the ninety minutes that the game lasts we should be united behind our team. And NOW we should be united behind our board, they are ambitious and have taken us to new heights, we should back them. |

Daz, don't you think it's a little sad therefore that Mr Sullivan has started over reacting to what he presumably sees as an individual misdemeanour on the part of a very small number of fans. You know as well as I do that neither the board nor any player would take a blind bit of notice of 150 names on an internet petition. |

Hmmm I understand your point but feel that any dissent shown to a potential signing is destructive. Unless the player is actually crap, which Bowyer clearly isn't, I think the fans should back the decision of the manager and the board. I believe that Sullivan sometimes gets a little miffed with the grumblings of folk who have the memory of an retarded goldfish and forget that only a few years ago we were looking forward to the fixture lists containing such European greats as York and Bury. I sympathise with Sullivan because he is genuinely trying to take the club forward on and off the pitch and probably takes such things like petitions as a personal slight on his business decisions. Hopefully once he has calmed down he will realise that the dissenters are few and so perhaps maybe some of the posters here should use the contact facility on the BCFC board and email poor beseiged Sullivan and let him know that you back his decision to try and recruit Bowyer! It may restore his faith in the human race! |

Struway, I think the problem is not the 'petition' because there will always be the fors, and the againsts, for anything. It's the fact that the tabloids got hold of it, and blew it up. If Bowyer signs now (and I hope he does) the tabloids will slate blues board and management team - and that's bad for business. And the whole of BCFC,supporters included could be branded with the same comments. I've been a Blues supporter for over 50 years, and seen the good and bad times for the club and supporters - and the thug 'football supporters' who I believe were incited by the press way back then. Most of that thuggery has gone, but the press love the 'out of line' - and Lee and the petition will bring out the worst out of the press. I hope everyone can calm down, and if Lee signs everyone gives the guy a chance to show his true colours on and off the field. Perhaps what has been written about him in the press is not the whole truth - it wouldn't be the first time the press have gotten a story wrong. |

I don't want to see the club I care about have all the good work that Karren and the rest of the board have done, in making links with the local community and bringing the ground etc up to the 21st century, undone by what I and those who have signed the petition (and those who haven't signed it but share the views) consider to be a misjudgment. In general I support the board and the manager, they're not perfect but we could do a lot worse. But I put a large proportion of my spare money into helping to make the club successful, I attended every game home and away last season, I sing and I cheer and I have never booed a Blues player in my life - and I think that gives me the right to express my feelings in a small way when something is important enough to me. And I'm sorry if Mr Sullivan doesn't like his customers daring to - once in a blue moon - express their feelings in a way he doesn't like. He didn't get where he is today in business by taking personally any minor irritation to his way of working. David Gold has a more temperate way of responding to matters. It's perhaps a shame that Mr Gold didn't make the first move on this - it wouldn't have been that difficult for a tactful and experienced businessman to formulate a statement that recognised the genuine concerns of the petitioners without either slagging them off or in any way giving in to them, if that was the viewpoint of the board. And to trublue, I don't think the problem is the petition either. That's why I'm bothered Mr Sullivan has chosen to direct his annoyance at the petitioners. I haven't been a Blues fan as long as you (though not far short) and am eternally grateful to our current board for getting the club where it is today. I don't particularly want to return to dodging the bricks and the sharpened pennies either. But if I think they're wrong I will say so. Too much "I" in this piece, sorry. |

A few dozen people are worried about how the image of the club they support would be affected by Lee Bowyer signing for them. They decide to voice that concern. All they asked for was for highlighted comments and facts to be taken into consideration before the board went ahead No ultimatums were issued, no-one said they would stop supporting Blues, no-one was presumptious enough to say they should be allowed to have any influence, and NO-ONE claimed they spoke for the majority of fans. It was clearly stated that it was the right of the board and the manager to buy and pick who they like, and all we asked was for them to realise that SOME fans, and especially those fans of an asian or black ethnic background, would feel uneasy applauding a player linked to many of the incidents. The petition remains open, it is, in our opinion, a fair request that the board consider all aspects of any transfer before going ahead. If after fair consideration of all the facts they decide that they SHOULD sign the player, then fine. They have opinions, we have opinions. Nothing more was asked for ... so where all this nonsense about "demands" "ultimatums" "ruining the club" "claiming to speak for the majority" etc came from i have no idea. Certainly isn't based on what was asked for .. read it yourself ... |
