You know I must confess that a few seasons ago I started going to some vile games because the blues were so poor. The football there at that time was actually not bad but what stopped me going ( apart from the guilt!!!) was how blooming miserable the vile fans were, even when their team was well up the table.

I just cant believe it but now we seem to be getting as bad. Is it something in the water in brum?

Yes , we shall be badly exposed in the middle of defence against clever, fast teams if we dont get a quality reinforcement for King Kenny soon. But nothing else is required to make us top ten ten IMO.

For God's sake lets get behind our team - by far the best in the midlands. And something we could only dream about not very long ago.

at the end of the day we need these kind of problems to show so that they can be sorted out before the season starts.

surely we should expect these things.

dont forget that last season we had problems with injuries, we cnt just keep saying the team is not strong. Stick with the team through thick and thin, even if it looks like we are struggling.

Just be happy they are making mistakes now, and can be nipped in the bud, rather than winnin all the pre-season games, and having this crop up in 05/06. This is what Pre-Season is all about i recall, so stop criticising etc and be thankfun for what is happening, as we have got to be realistic too

Some realy good points raised in this thread but we are begining to sound a little ruffled after one poor result. The main purpose for these friendly matches is fitness building and to try out new styles of play. IMO we saw a what if situation last night, what if Mario, the Forse and one or two others are not available for selection how would we set out to play. Lets also not take anything away from Northampton I thought they played a quality game against us. They have quick players in all departments and are very well organised. They gave our defence something to think about, very much needed after the Derby match. I for one will not read too much into the match and will certainly not pass comment on individual players at this stage, they will be disapointed by this result as well.
My only gripe is the ammount of times we hear " sh1t on the v***a" sang at our matches. Surely it would be better to sing more supportive anthems.

Spot on. It is time we grew out of that chant. We need to beat many more teams than the villa if we are going to keep hold of our better players for much longer ( I would still live to stuff them again this season though!)

Bloody Hell bluebob....
Bit extreme isn' it?
Expecting encouraging songs about our Team rather than knocking the local rivalry when they aren't even there?
I mean...
What does it say about us if all we can do is sing about a Team that isn't there and can't come up with a song to inspire our own?

As long as people are going to the matches, that shows the support they are receiving and that surely is enough

Dire!  anyone says 7 or 8th this season is having a laugh.... Nafti is rubbish!!  sorry but he ain't premiership.  you can't play to out and out wingers when you have a dire midfield like we have.

you travel by concord blooboy!!!??? just noticed you posted the original thread at
9.26pm....i dont think i had even got out of the car park by then!!!!!!
tell, whats the secret??

i take no notice of friendlys at all. anyone remember when we beat arsenal 4-1 and then the following week manure 4-3 also forest 4-1 all in peseason friendlys.

it mad no difference to them at all manure still went on to win the prem.

i say fare play to northampton.

we will see what happens when the season starts.

Totally agree, its a game where no one wants to get hurt, to ease them selves back into the season!

Going back to Nafti - IMO he is the best defensive midfielder at this club, and I am not sure what people want from him. In my eyes he is a better player than savage ever was, and, as he showed on a number of occassions towards the end of last season, he is a prem-class 'breaker.' However, if SB is going to play DJ or Clem or anyone of that ilk next to him, we will look like shite. With Dunn alongside him, Nafti would look very decent. Think about how poor Makalele looked when Geremi et al played alongside him. Now I am not syaing nafti is that kind of quality, but he is that type of player, and needs to be used as such.

Surprised by the comment from blooboy :"Taylor to be fair was good in the right back Position". I thought he was shocking! :o The mighty(!?) Northampton seemed to suss that out quite quickly and when they attacked he would be the one they targeted (and where did the goal come from?) I wouldn't like to see him defending like that against premiership forwards.

yeah but the mighty Blooboy ;) was trying to defend him..... only Bruce could stick him in at right back.. anyway i've said my bit on all this. Maybe i am unfairly rounding on the team for what was a friendly. It was still a tenner each to get in :o
did i get my moneys worth?? you tell me.....lol

persoanlly last night would have been an ideal opportunity to try a 3-5-2
Taylor
Taylor King Ken Upson

Pre season is for one thing only fitness. Results do not matter.

True. And if last season we had been half decent, I wouldn't care about any on the pre-season results. However, last season we were poor in all but a handfull of games. And in most of those handfull we were okay. We were stunning in only about three or four games. If that.

This result shows that little has changed. Same team. Same tactics. Same disappointment. I am concerned at the lack of ideas from the management. Steve Bruce doesnt seem to know who he wants to bring to the club, or when they get here what their role is.

We have the basis of a very good side if we strengthen a few key positions. But will we have the tactical ability to get that side to perform. I have severe doubts. Pre season is doing little to allay my worries.

If nothing else one thing is crystal clear to me. We need a strong, vocal and commanding team captain. Someone to take charge on the pitch when things aren't going well. For all his ability and experience, KC is not that man.

you do put some very good points across. i myself dont think anything about pre-season.

but i can think of 6 very good perfomanceis from last season but as yu say on the whole it dont look good.

I'm with friendly76 on this! I have been driven from my beloved seat on the Tilton by the morons that allegedly support our club but spend all their time slagging players off. I understand criticism and frustration but the bile and hatred aimed at some players in a Blues shirt is disgusting. Ok Nafti did not play well last night and yes I was there, he would know that, Bruce would know it too. He's entitled to a bad game as he gains match fitness.
Listen to this very carefully, last season the FANS drove away an international player. I agree that Gronks did not perform as we had all hoped but to abuse him and boo him often in the first few minutes made me ashamed.
We are all supposed to be on the same side. When we kick off to the final whistle we should support our team. At the end if we are not happy then feel free to voice your opinion, you've paid your money as you keep telling us. No player deliberately gives the ball away or misses a tackle.

You are weak!!! There is a right nob are 3 complete d!cks behind me the talk sh!te for 90 mins every home game!! Obviously were not ther int the dark days when we used to get 8 or 9000! I would never move from the Tilton because of this to$$er!!

I am weak I am weak I am weak! Yep you're right. The thing is that it's like someone tapping you on the back of the head constantly. I even tried 'outing' them in MIB magazine but all that did was get the other people who sit near me paranoid and then I got loads of people actually tapping me and asking if I was talking about them! I can't win.
