Bowyer handed Toon fillip

Lee Bowyer looks set to stay at Newcastle after Freddy Shepherd and Graeme Souness released a joint statement praising the recent attitude of the controversial midfielder.

The 28-year-old scored a stunning away goal in the Magpies' 2-1 defeat against Deportivo La Coruna in the Intertoto Cup semi-final first leg in Spain last night.

Bowyer, who had seemed set for a summer exit following an on-pitch incident with team-mate Kieron Dyer in April, has said he wants to stay at St James' Park.

And chairman Shepherd and manager Souness said in a joint statement: "We have been delighted to hear Lee's recent comments that he wants to stay with Newcastle United.

"What has happened in the past is now in the past. Lee is a fantastic player and remains one of the most popular lads in the dressing room.

"He has always given 110% commitment for the club."

Shame, he was the best newcastle player on the pitch yesterday, he would have been awsome for us.

Im not sure the idiot petition was the deciding factor in him not coming but it certainly didnt help.

So what does that give them now? Bowyer, Parker, Jenas, Dyer, Emre, Butt, Faye, Viana. Seems as if the Toon wont be hurting for midfield options this season. KRO

ADMIN.

Why was this moved?

It relates to BCFC just as much as Newcastle.
