I hope Geremi is not the player Lyon would want in any possible exchange as that would leave one less talented central midfielder for us to target. KRO http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.a...nel=premiership Lyon chairman Jean Michel Aulas has revealed that the French champions are hoping to agree a part exchange deal with Chelsea for Michael Essien. The lengthy saga surrounding the Ghanaian star is drawing ever closer to completion, although The Blues are yet to have a bid accepted for the impressive midfielder. Aulas stated earlier on Thursday that he was not willing to compromise on his asking price and is now seeking one of Jose Mourinho's talented squad to make the move to Stade Gerland if Essien leaves. Lyon could be searching for a direct replacement although with the likes of Alexei Smertin and Scott Parker already departing Stamford Bridge it remains to be seen who is the object of their affections. Aulas has always proved reluctant to let slip his grip on his most prized asset, and remained hardnosed as he also criticised Mourinho for 'unceasingly calling' Essien. "They shouldn't take French clubs for fools," Aulas told French newspaper Progres. "Michael is worth between €45 and 50 million (£31-35million) and because time has been wasted if we are to recruit if Essien leaves us now, I estimate that our player will leave for 45 million euros, while bringing in one Chelsea player. "Rather than unceasingly calling the player to make it all the more sad, Mourinho would do better to call me directly. Chelsea will learn to know me." Mourinho himself has revealed his frustrations at being unable to close the deal, voicing his desire to end the saga one way or another in the near future. Chelsea are determined to add Essien to their star studded squad, although the Blues boss is adamant that Essien is only one option open to the Premiership champions. "I hope we are sure about that soon - he comes or he doesn't come," Mourinho told the club's official website. "He comes, great. If he doesn't come it's not a drama. But I need to know. "One more option, a great option. But one more. "But I need to know. He provides one more option, a great option. But it is just one more option." |

Seems as if Spurs have also had a bid accepted for one Andy Van der Meyde. Surely that will spell the end for Sean Davis. KRO http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.a...nel=premiership |

I hate to say this but Spurs are looking one hell of a team for next year. Im afraid they have moved on a lot since last season and if we seriously think we are going to finish above the likes of Spurs, Newcastle, Middlesbrough & Everton in order to make europe then some serious action in the transfer martket is needed. |

Spurs and Toon are showing that you dont have to wait and see what the Chelseas and Man uniteds are going to do before you make a move and i wish we would take a page from their book. You have to be proactive and move on players once they become available. We are only two weeks away from the start of the campaign and have at least 3 holes to fill imo. KRO |

Exactly! Perfectly summed up. Unless Blues are keeping their cards seriously close to their chests it seems to me that we are being very unambitious at the moment. We are not exactly skint are we! Why are we never in for these players? VDM is a top player and would be a welcome addition to our squad. Yes, we have pennant but who is his understudy? DJ thats who. Im not knocking DJ but imo hes not a right winger, he is just a useful utility player, he is not going to scare defences. Come on blues, pull your fingers out ffs. |

Why should we feed off other clubs scraps? We should be in for the top players like spurs are. Not waiting for cast offs after all the better talent has been snapped up. Im not saying that we shouldnt go for Davis, hes a good player, but if tottenham are aiming higher then why arent we? Im sorry, but im very disillusioned with this club at the moment, it seems to me that our board are not as ambitious as they are making out. I hope they prove me wrong.... |

IMO Spurs have been doing a lot of good things the last couple of years. Buying up a lot of the young talented footballers in this country and developing them further. Michael Dawson & Andy Reid (Forset), Huddleston (I think), Carrick, etc, etc. Ok they have bought more senior players, but they are also keeping an eye on the future, and these players will wait in the wings, and then fill in when needed. |

Spurs are going to be pushing for Champions league this season IMO.... I think Chelsea are being taken for a ride with these signings...and so they should b with all their money! Wright-Phillips is a £10m player - not a £20m player... Essiens a £15m player - not a £32m player... I'd rather have 11 Jermaine Pennants any day... :D actually that might be a tad too much competition for Right Midfield... |

I have to agree with you there, with four world class strikers, VdM, Davids, Carrick, Dawson, Routledge, and Reid in midfield, and the possible addition of Bridge they seem well on the way to the Uefa cup, if not the champions league. Im happy to see its Tiago, Lyon want, maybe now we can go for Geremi and finally make that quality midfield signing ive been hearing so much about from the board. crusto, i agree with you as well. I dont know if Davis is the "world class" player we were promised (though he is a damn good player on his day), but if we cant bring in the likes of Geremi, Malbranque, or Hargreaves, imo he would be a viable subsitute.
