The Guardian's Rumour Mill (a collection of stories and rumours from the tabloids) have the story that Tottenham will complete a £6m deal for Bridge in January and will sign van-der-meyde. To offset the cash for these purchases they will be selling Davis, with us, boro and everton (I think those other clubs are what they put) interested and Brown, who wigan are after. Hopefully there is some truth in this, although I would have liked us to have a sniff round Bridge (we don't seem to be spending big money this summer though) I'd be very happy if Davis was the fall guy to balance spurs' books. |

Would like Davis, but think if Everton were interested he'd move there We need to sort something out as we do look to have a decent team to put out, but if we get injuries and suspensions they our back-up looks weak in most departments |

No I think you will find that Simon Davies moved to Everton but that Sean Davis is still at Spurs. Two totally different players, ones a winger and one is a holding midfielder. ;) |

Now Davis is the type of player we should be competing to get. If not? I would have to ask why not? |

Probably because we should be signing players with more ability. I'd be pissed if we signed Davis. |

Don't get me wrong I'd prefer Malbranque. But Davis is a very good footballer and IMO, he'd walk straight into our team at central midfield. |

Davis is quality. He is young, English, has a good engine, can pass, can score and likes to put his foot in. He'll be a top signing if we'd make the effort to go for him. |

Davis would be a useful signing, would have to be a reasonable price though, 2-3m would sound fair. |

He's not 'quality', he's got some ability, but he's nothing special. Davis is the same as Bernard, Euell, Gardner, and Etherington. If Birmingham's ambition is to buy mid table players, why sign anyone? There's no point signing players who can't win you anything, the whole point of football games is winning them. If Davis is all Bruce can do, we need a real manager. He can't say the players aren't on market. Last year Everton had Cahill, Fulham had Bouba-Diop, our own player AJ scored 21. Italian clubs don't have money, but teams like Parma brought through Gilardino, Frey, Adriano, Mutu, Thuram. Udinese made Kroldrup out of nothing, Boa Morte didn't cost Fulham much, Wright-Phillips was free for Man City, Bojinov didn't cost Lecce much. |

If spurs can sign Bridge, why cant we? If Spurs can sign Davids, why cant we? If Spurs can sign Van der Meyde, why cant we? My guess is these players arent "world class" enough for us! But more than likely the fact is some teams are showing true ambition while others (namely us) are going to wait and see if a quality player can fall in our laps. Spurs have either found a sugar daddy or they are putting themselves in huge debt. I know we have been in the premiership for 3 seasons but I think people need to reel in their exectations a bit. There is no way in a million years Blues are going to spend £5M+ on a full back when we need a striker and a midfield player, get real. |

We earn 45m a year, no debts apparently squad wages are just over 10m a year, our chairmen have almost 1b between them. 3.4m Savage, 1.5m Carter, 1.5m Gronkjaer, 1m Cisse/Purse, 800k Robbie Blake, 160k Fagan, some Figueroa & Gilbert money, 2.5m cash extension of Flybe around January, about 5m league money So far we've spent 500k on Pennant, 700k on Nafti, 3m on Forssell, we should have AT LEAST 10m left. Jeez, where can we find the money? It's third world out here. Bruce can't say the players aren't on market. Every single year there's a Valeri Bojinov, Bouba Diop or Tim Cahill. Small teams who couldn't afford an Appiah made these players. Bojinov Lecce, Bouba Diop Fulham, Cahill Everton, they'd all sign for us before those teams. It's all excuses. |

No, they just spend money they earn. Spurs have had 10-20-30 whatever years to do what we've done in 3 years. We've come far quick, it still makes no difference, because we've got at least 10m and pretend we can't afford Appiah. If Birmingham didn't have the money for these players, nobody would mention it. |

Mido, Davids, Tainio, Routledge, Dawson, Robinson, Reid, Edman, Carrick, Huddlestone That's why, they make signings. They're still trying to sign players. They bid 14m for Baptista, they're bidding about 11m for Kuyt. |

We have money to spend, now the question is, are we willing to spend it? The answer to that question is looking more and more to me like an emphatic, NO! On Bridge i could care less one way or the other, but dont say we dont have the money, because thats a laugh. But how about a free for Bernard? We cant even seem to get that done. Davids and Van der Meyde though are the type of players we should be linked with though. Instead our board is upset we missed out on the likes of Smertin, and have us chasing Euell. If we are going to take that next step we are going to have to sign the type of players who can get us there. Heskey, Forssell, Pennant, Melchiot, and Upson have all been brilliant signings in the past, we need to continue to build with that type of quality at the central midfield and left back positions. And we can, and im holding onto hope that we will. KRO |

The evening mail said that we could not afford him, did you see a quote from the Blues? No!! Do you really beleive that we cannot afford £5M. If and I say "IF" we were after Appiah the board and SB decided he was not worth that sort of money as did Boro and the other English clubs that the PRESS had linked with the player. The board are running a business, they know a lot more about business than you or I and I think trying to grow a business too quickly and putting yourself in major debt to do so is a 1 way road to disaster, I dont want to end up in the Championship with huge debts like Leeds, Coventry, Shef Wed, Bradford to name but a few. Show some patience, as long as we get Pandi and a quality midfield player before the deadline I will be happy, but I dont think we should be made to pay over the odds to foreign clubs who realise the premership is awash with money. |

Nope, I don't believe it, and that's what makes it worse. I don't believe it's because he's not good enough for us, because anyone who sees Appiah beat a whole team, curl a 30 yard shot into the net, then go make some important tackles, would realise you won't get a player like him for less than 5.5m, unless you've got managerial skills of clubs like Parma, Lecce, Arsenal. Bruce doesn't have them managerial skills. He sold on a 20 goal a season England international forward for nothing, in his own youth squad. Wenger signs e.g Vieira for 3m, Bruce wants Michael Brown for 4. Anelka signs for 500k, Robbie Blake signs for 800k. Cisse signs for 1.5m, Bouba Diop signs for about the same for Fulham. I don't want Bruce out before you mention it. His man managing is the best in the PL, probably the best in world football. He's the only manager who can sign alcoholics, alleged racists etc and not have a bad reputation. Spending hundreds of millions put Leeds in debt, 5.5m wouldn't get us relegated, when we've got about 10m. |
