I agree. Listening to Bruce on the radio earlier, he said he hated them as a player and even more as a manger!

The only reason im panicking is after reading Brucies comments in todays evening mail saying 'we may have to make do with what weve got'

Friendlies are not the best indication of how you will perform but in this case the friendlies are just enforcing what we know that in midfield we are not good enough.

If we have to 'make do' untill Janury without a top central midfielder being brought in then we can forget europe.

Dunn wont be back for a couple of months, DJ is suspended for the first 3 games and isnt good enough anyway, Nafti is only good at stopping other teams play and Izzet still looks a long way off his best.

Im not panicking bucause we are too good to go down however unless we sign someone very good we are in for another season of mediocrity.

Lets throw 6-7m on the Fulhams table for Malbranque and see what they say.

Why on earth would we buy another attacking midfielder in the form of Malbranque. I thought we need a player to hold the midfield and defense together, not weaken it even more. Otherwise all 4 of them will just attack all of the time.

Disappointed with the results so far (although the Derby game was a glimpse of how good we can actually be)
No,there is NO reason to panic over the results of pre-season friendly games...lower league sides are out to to do their best v PL sides...gives them a confidence booster
Didn't we beat Man United or Spurs a few years ago in the Nationwide yet still failed to win promotion that corresponding season ??

Come August 13th we will be going out 'all guns blazing' and I still believe we will add at least TWO quality players on top of Pandiani (ah,finally,I see some light in that particular tunnel) ... before the window closes and I firmly believe we may add one or two more come January when good players become available out of a desire to leave or the 'well-fancied' clubs are struggling at that time

I think you'll find Nafti,Clemence or Izzet may be asked to play a more defensive role but Malbranque is quite capable of playing there too
If we were to go after Malbranque I'd have no complaints but I'm very frustrated we didn't follow up our interest in Miccoli of Juventus or Basinas of Pananthanaikos
First we were interested in BOTH players......then SILENCE

And we really should be bidding for Jagielka of Sheff Utd who turned down a 3 million pound bid from Wigan this week

A 4 million pound bid should be enough for the England Under 21 international

I think Sheffield turned down a 4m offer from Wigan. Apparently Wigan asked how much they wanted for Jakielka and Sheffield said 4m so Wigan said 'ok then'. Sheffield then turned round and asked for 5m instead.

Seems like a bit of 'Chelski syndrome', sheffield are only bumping up the price because they know wigan have loads of cash to spend.

Well,in the case of Sheffiled United they are chasing promotion (Again) and don't want to lose their best players but at the same time they aren't going to turn down a decent bid for financial reasons

We should offer 4.5 million and then politely state..."Take it or Leave it"....after all,Karren Brady has often stated "we will not be held to ransom" and in a way,I see her point.....overspending on players could be a disaster in the long run (Ipswich,Bradford,Leeds etc)

Jenas cost 5 million,Carrick cost 3 million and Kewell cost Liverpool around 5 million so I don't think that's silly money for one of the best players outside of the Premiership

the pre-season is a time to gain some fitness, some match prctise and some team building that naturally disapperas over the summer. why people are panicking now is beyond me, notice that sunderland, vile and charlton also lost today to lower league teams!! correct me if i'm wrong, but the pop league starts the week before the prem, so their players are that week further on with their fitness and formations..we've nothing to worry about YET for two reasons;

1/ the season aint started today, it starts in 2 weeks
2/ the transfer window is still open, many signings happen in the last few weeks.

if nothing has changed 4 weeks from now, and we're still losing, then i'll be concerned. now? couldn't care less.........

Baseball has an extensive pre-season. They actually play around 20 pre-season games. Back in 92 the Toronto Blue Jays had a very bad pre-season, I believe they only won around 4 games out of the twenty games. Well that season they went onto win the World series. So when I read some of the negative posts on here I just think back to 92 and smile. :)

I never worry about pre season friendlies, they are used to gel players and gain match fitness, and i don't care what anyone tells you the players never give them 100%, simply because they don't want to risk injury etc.

The only thing that worries me at the moment is our lack of serious movement in the transfer market, and SB saying we "might have to go with what were've got" it is obvious we are lacking a real play maker in midfield, i believe we are holding out til Dunn gets back to fitness, this for me is very silly, cos he might not (god forbid) get back to fitness, and he probably won't be ready til December, now if we haven't done well til then, then its a season of at best mediocrity, or worse a relegation battle, ive read in posts on this thread that were to good to go down?? tosh no one is to good to go down except the top 6, ask wast him, leeds and countless others.

I think its just a chance for them to make extra money and for the little teams i.e QPR to play some premiership teams i.e us and then field there strong side and then be on a high all season becuase they beat a premiership side!!
If this doesn't make sense im sorry im abit tired

I guess having every one of our friendlies away from home dosent help the results either.
