I'd like to voice my concern that we are 2 weeks from the new season and we have hardly any Midfield. We are going into the new season with exactly the same midfield as last, less one player!. In the middle we have a choice of Nafti (handful of games in the Prem), Kilkenny (learning his craft) Izzet (still not 100% fit) Clemence (only used is as a bit part last season) (Anderton (good squad player but can't last 90 mins) and then of course there is the player we sold...... Darren Carter, used for a lot of last season and scored a few even though only a youngster. Are we going to sign a midfielder or not??? if we are...get on with it, otherwise we'll be into a new season with an untried Midfield Partnership. it's very worrying...today Stephen Clemence, Muzzy Izzet, Darren Anderton...i am assuming this is going to be first choice went to London...Neil Kilkenny, Mehdi Nafti went to London Road. who is the first choice midfield? and if Steve knows why arn't they forging a partnership? |

Im with you there mate. I fully suported the sale of Carter because i just presumed we had a top quality replacement already lined up. Now that looks like it isnt the case i just wonder what the hell we sold him? The money we got was a fair offer but it wasnt like it was stupid money we couldnt turn down. We should have told Albion they could have Carter ONLY WHEN we had signed his replacement. Bruce is now talking about having to 'make do with what weve got' Madness :( |

At the moment, I would think (hope) that the first choice is going to be Izzet and nafti. Whilst that is solid enough, Izzet had been out for a while and isn't that young, and Nafti can defend very well but offers nothing going forward. Therefore, we do need a classy playmaker - Landzaat, Malbranque, whoever. It is easy for me to say, but if we have to pay 1m more than we think a player is worth we should go for it on this occassion. We have been shrewrd before and it has served us, but this is the last piece of the jigsaw for now -THE vital missing ingredient. We need a Dunn/Merson/Beardsley type player desperately! |

We arent a million miles away from being a top seven side, we are one class midfielder away. Imo we are so close and it is driving mad with every passing day of inaction on the transfer front. KRO |

Francis is to join Wigan. KRO http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.a...nel=premiership Wigan Athletic have agreed a fee with Norwich City for Damien Francis' services. Portsmouth tried to seal a deal for Francis earlier in the week, but their offer fell short of The Canaries' valuation of the midfielder. Francis impressed for Norwich last term scoring seven times as the East Anglian side suffered relegation from The Premiership. Wigan boss Paul Jewell has been searching frantically for reinforcements this summer and believes the addition of Francis will be a major boost to his squad. "We've agreed a fee with Norwich, and hopefully we can speak to the player on Monday and we'll see if we can sort out a deal," revealed Jewell to the club's official website. "He's big, got an eye for goal, and we need competition all over the pitch, so hopefully we can get him and early next week we can tie up the deal." |

admin, can you set up a doom-and-gloom section for these poor folk, who are writing the season off before we kick a ball in anger? there's a real danger they'll drive more optimistic fans to slit their wrists!!! christ, what happened to keeping right on and all that?? give them a chance IN A REAL MATCH before slagging all and sundry..i wonder about some people, they seem to welcome failures as it gives them a chance to vent their bile at the board, sb, kb etc etc etc... i always thought bcfc fans were more robust and loyal than this, it sickens me that every other thread or post is "its relegation" "no class in midfield" "sb no tactics". obviously our mob are getting more like the whingers in b6 every day, yet at least our board are having a go, ffs......... :( |

As i said before we have good defensive midfielders in Nafti,DJ and Clemence, but they are only excellent when they have continous games. I mean last season for e.g. Clemence was droped 1 week picked another and he didnt get the chance to show his best, like his first season and a little bit with Savage the one after. DJ is always playing in different places. What i think is if these 3 get enough games in to be match fit and not like last season playing in different places i think we have the defensive midfield sorted. It just centre attacking mid i mean ok we have izzet but if that knee plays up we would have 2 defensive midfielders in midfield and how will the goals come? Thats why i partly wish we kept Carter as i think he would have been a decent attacking mid player. Its going to be hard to get Clemence,Dj and Nafti all to remain match fit and playing in 1 spot as i said if they only play the odd games they obviously wont be able to compete vs teams like liverpool. |

I think admin should declare August 1st Birmingham City positivity day and we can only have positive messages on the board - think I'm gonna have a bet on Blues to win mickey mouse cup (or whatever its called this season) and the FA Cup also I think that this season twell score more goals than we've ever scored in previous seasons of premier league and with demise of both Man Utd and Aresnal I think 3rd place in league is well up for grabs - have only had four pints so far today! |

first off blooboy, you don't know me so dont speak on my behalf... we wont go down, so i wont talk about that prospect..... what you wont find me doing is whinging about the board, sb, ds, kb, the team etc whenever they try their best, which i believe they are doing... second in the prediction league, well thats impressive and, may i ask, why didn't the club approach you as the latest coach? or maybe they did...? i certainly realise we're not all a happy bunch skipping along, there's plenty of posters who remind me of that every hour of every day...... i prefer i suppose to look at what we've done in the last 3 seasons whilst completely rebuilding the team and the infrastructure of the club; in the top 13 each season, 4th one season with 8 games to go, home and away against vile and liverpool..aint all bad is it, and if you'd been sitting where i have for the last 40 years perhaps you'd be seeing these as good times too... so why cant you just get behind them, have faith and, most of all, ENJOY IT!!!! crock of sh1te? maybe, but at least i'm enjoying it and not slagging folk off... ;) |
