yes can't remember what i was looking for now...lol but hell of a site. Reading the players profiles is good. Allan Clarke, Booby Moore, what players they were. Terry Coopers is good as well...didn't know he was a left winger before converting to left back. |

Yes,remember the side and have a look where the Villa and Wolves were Villa were in the old Third Division (equivalent to League One today) and amazingly they reached the Final of the League Cup and lost to Spurs 2-0 (Martin Chivers got both goals ) Wolves had a very good side (Dougan,Knowles,Bailey,Wagstaffe era) and finished 4th in the top flight...the following year they reached the only ever European Final between 2 English clubs (1972 UEFA Cup and Tottenham were winners again winning 3-2 on aggregate) Arsenal did the League and FA Cup double that year (1971) The following year was much better for the Blues ....won promotion and reached the semi final of the FA Cup and had the darnest luck drawing Don Revie's Leeds United who beat us 3-0 at Hillsborough (we were really never in it) and Blues fans decided to kick the living daylights out of the 700 or so Leeds fans who infiltrated the old Kop terracing end at Sheffield Wednesday FC where Blues fans were ticketed to be.....South Yorkshire Police were very busy that day.....Blues wore a red version of the 'penguin' and Leeds went on to win the Cup (The Centenary Final) beating Arsenal 1-0 with a goal from Allan Clarke ...... A week later we were back at Hillsborough beating Sheff Wed 2-1 in the League (this time several thousand fans from all over Yorkshire wanted to kick the living daylights out of Blues fans) ...and Millwall fans celebrated at The Den thinking they had won promotion after their announcer mistakenly announced Blues had LOST at Sheffield...I believe the poor chap got 'lynched' and was never heard of again... Great memories (me and a mate actually got beat up by Sheffield United fans at Hillsborough...bad luck or what ?? they weren't even playing us that day) Blues sqaud that year......Latchford(D),Kelly,Cooper,Martin,Carroll,Pendrey,Page,Hynd,Harland,Robinson,Campbell,Francis,Latchford®,Hatton,Taylor,Summerill,Bowker And here's more trivia....despite being one of the most attractive venues in England,Hillsborough had an 'age old' tradition of staging FA Cup semi-finals going back to 1912....wasn't a great stomping ground for BCFC although we did beat Sunderland 3-0 on our way to our last final in 1956....other appearances v 1946 Derby Co D 1-1.......1957 L 0-2 Man United...... 1972 lost 0-3 to Leeds....1975 D 1-1 Fulham....it was used for the 1989 semi between Notts Forest and Liverpool and a crowd surge led to the deaths of 95 fans at the Liverpool 'section' of terracing at the Leppings Lane end and in fact that tragedy was THE factor that led to all seater stadia in today's game (The PL will NOT accept teams that have terracing anymore) ....Hillsborough has been used only once since then for a semi final (1992 Sunderland 1 Norwich 0) May the 95 NEVER be forgotten Keep right on |
