Just to keep you all up to date...

There was a meeting a the ladies training session yesterday (sunday), which I attended, along with Steve & Stuart of the BC ladies FC setup, and a potential sponsor.

The squad were brought up to date and were asked to give the management until Friday of this week (5/8/05) to attempt to sort the finances out. Which they agreed to.

We rec'd a letter from Perry D of BCFC, briefly outlining the commercial assistance etc that BCFC are willing and able to furnish, I will be contacting him again to-day to get these details firmed up and expanded up on.

On offer so far is :

two match day "collection" opportunities, this will allow the ladies to collect at the game, and get supporters to donate at a full home game,

first home game of season at st andrews, this again will give opportunity to use as fund raiser, and would need as many blues supporters to attend to show that we DO want a ladies team, both to the sponsor and the BCFC board.

we will be proposing other stuff, which includes the following

inclusion in mail shot to season ticket holders (probably in Oct) requesting donations

Link on home page of BCFC.com to ladies site/ donation page (being developed)

Assistance with various other commercial "negotiations" that are with common suppliers. - travel - pitches etc.

a small snag has been that Flybe will not allow the ladies team to use new home kit, and BCFC official badge with a different sponsor to flybe.com (although they DON'T want to be the sponsor...) so hence we have got to contact lonsdale to design, and hopefully "give" a new BCFC kit to the ladies that does not conflict with the "flybe" one.

it does seem nonsense that these little snags arise, but thats life, and we will get there... i hope.

we are not there yet.... but continual progress is being made. Having looked at the setup that the ladies have for the first time, I was impressed with the professional coaching that is there. We seem to have (and i say we because I DO FEEL IT IS a bcfc thing) a good coach with Marcus Bignot, even after hearing the "news" yesterday the Women went and trained for a few hours WITH pride and wearing the BLUES badge. And they are good, i saw a few strong shots and passes that the mens first sqaud would have been proud of, and we could have used, when we have missed a few "sitters"..

These women are either semi pro, or ameteur., and some travel from london 3 times a week to train/play for blues, and the traveling can easily wipe out any money they could have earnt.

even Yankey, the highest profiled woman in the English game, is paid a lot les than i thought she would have been. I don't know if it just an english problem?

we have 500,000 girls of all ages playing football in the UK, and there is very very little support, and yet women attend mens matchs now adays, are more interested in the game, is it just male snobbery? the rest of europe and the usa will be so far ahead of us if we don't support sport at this level. I had hoped that the spirit of London 2012 would begin to spread into ALL sports.

At the Moor Lane sports fields yesterday there was also an Ulimate Frisbee tournement, which I had never heard of before, it was sponsored, and had women and mens games..... this "minority" game was getting better backing than womens football..... it was shameful!

well done on progress so far, its essential that the womens game is supported, and thrives, for the benefit of the community as a whole as well as the benefit of the current set-up. i'd be proud if my daughters wanted to play football for anyone, let alone the mighty blues. i've contributed through the bank and will contribute at the matches; come on you blues fans, lets prove the myth that brummies are generous people!!
ian, keep up the good work, your reward will come in heaven (st andys!!)

Ian - the amount of time and effort that both you and Sam Jordan have put into this is brilliant. It seems like your pressuring has really made a difference and I only wish I could give a fraction of the time that the two of you have put into this.

As others, I have donated through paypal and encoruaged all the staff in my office to do the same - even a Villa fan has donated a fiver through paypal to the cause!

Fantastic work. I am sure that the ladies team will be grateful to the two of you :D

thanks for support, and comments, I am doing very little, I am acting as middle man between BCFC and BCFC ladies, nothing else...

the guys at BCFC ladies just need help, and I feel they are exhausted at having to chase for money ALL the time, when they just want to sort the coaching and game side out. That exhaustion must get to them, and has probably turned to anger at the way things have gone, so I am just trying to tackle from in new way, WITH the backing of blues FANS, you lot, that is the difference. I did, like many other supporters, beleive that BCFC funded the ladies,

it was only this weekend that i went and actually read some of the old 04/05 progs "ladies section" that i saw a few lines stating they were in need of help.

the only reward i, and the other seek, is a stable future for the ladies, and to see them lift a trophy or two!

not done as yet! we are 100% relient on this "potential" sponsor putting package together for friday, ie HARD cash, the supporters are showing HIM and BCFC board that this matters, Sam and I have done very little really, but thanks, and yes it is pressure, and I mean POSITIVE pressure that we need, BCFC will get a load of decent publicity friday if they support (even non financial) the efforts of the fans and the ladies team.

The FA are bending over backwards to help, they have agreed to pospone the start of the season for BCFC fixtures, to ensure they get the time they need. They need a strong top league. But they cannot give money DIRECT.

Probably has already been done, but is it worth contacting other Ladies Teams to share problems and solutions. I know some are directly sponsored by the male coounterpart clubs, but there must be some in the same situation as Blues Ladies.

Sorry, just added what I meant to say in the first place. Good work Ian and thanks for keeping us in touch.

yes i agree, I am trying to stay out of this and letting others in to be more diplomatic...

I am sure that work is going on to secure funding long term, i know that Ian Coley will do things professionally, where i would have chained myself to the BCFC gates and demanded action! only to find they drive all the cars out of different exit... and leave me there for days!

so diplomacy may work, if not I will be chained up on main gates until something is done, i find it frustrating that Blues are dragging there feet for such a relatively small sum, and i know that certain things have gone wrong between the two "set ups"... but it must now be saved by ALL means... and i know there is a "potential" sponsor, but if that falls thru' there will be nothing!

i must now shut up, or ian will tell me to shut up as my comments and emails to KB etc may up set the cart.... or something as wishy washy softie!

ian! if u don't get what the ladies need I will not hold back! u have been warned, ... lol

go for it

Sam, I have been in contact with iancoley in respect of the Save BCFC ladies wristbands. He has the contact details for 2 manufactuers of the writsbands and is currently getting prices for the production of around 2000 of them. It is looking like a pretty viable idea to have them ready in 3 weeks for them to be sold in conjunction with the fundraising at the 2 home matches.
