Steve Bruce always has always had loan players, playing for Birmingham City. We had 4 last season. Who will be our first and second this season? |

i dont want any loan players. Just means that if their good, theres a big fuss and panic at the end of the season to sign him up. |

Its just stressfull having to try and sign a player whos impressed and theres another 20 clubs suddenly after him. I think we should only loan players if their from abroad and we cant gamble. But when its proven premierleague players like Wayne Bridge then we know he wont be a gamble and we should just buy him. |

Unless a very special player becomes availible on loan (which is very rare) then i think we should keep away from loan players this season. |

Loan deals have always worked out brilliantly for us in the past what with Forssell, Pennant, Pandiani, Dugarry. Its just like a try before you buy scheme which i hope we take advantage of again this season. |

Surely Olivier Dacourt would be a TOP shout... I've heard even Arsenal might be interested in the ex Leeds man .... |

Well I think he likes us and MOST supporters (I use the term sparingly) seem to like him but who is going to keep him away from Broad Street and the Balti Houses ?? The daft brush mentioned the large Asian community in Birmingham (nothing to do with football,of course) so if he DOES sign for us even on loan (and football is a funny old game so don't rule it out, yet) I think he would be a quailty addition to the BCFC sqaud ....the commute from Wrexham might be a struggle though :D |

Bowyer was superb the other night against deportivo, like the Bowyer of a couple of season ago. If he could maintain that kind of form he'd be a great signing and a loan deal could be best for everyone. If he keeps his nose clean for the season more people would warm to him signing permanently |

I think we will use one of our loans for a central defender. With doubts over Kenny's fitness and his long term plans, I think Bruce may well get in some experienced cover. |

"I think we will use one of our loans for a central defender. With doubts over Kenny's fitness and his long term plans, I think Bruce may well get in some experienced cover." Oh god st andys I really hope you are right. You often are so I will keep my fingers crossed. I fear for us if we dont bring in a top class central defender- this is far, far more important than yet another midfielder IMO |

lmao, yeah perhaps he'll sign for welshburn then - oh no, he's english....... i would seriously welcome him, he'd be good for us even if it was a loan until we could sign someone permanent and/or dunny has proved his fitness.. ;) |

tbh Cotswold I don't share your concerns over the CB position??? OK KC is getting older but remember he was part of the central pairing that made our defence the tightest at home only second in the Prem to Arsenal. I do think he will need replacing at some point but don't think there is quite the need for desperate measures yet. Also we have: Tiny, OJI, Painter, Young Bruce, who can all play in that position, so one more season might well do Blues before bringing through a youngster to play alongside Upson. I would like to see a LB, Bernard or someone else signed and a creative midfielder, not sure Eull is the answer. |

If you look at tonights Evening Mail, Oji, Bruce Jnr and Tebily are out with injuries, leaving only Taylor and Painter as back up to Kenny, who didnt frcature his ribs against QPR - He suffered a collapsed lung. (although it is not as bad as it sounds) There are doubts that he will be fit for the start of the season. |

[/QUOTE] I hope you are right about the players coming through. Dont get me wrong. I think King Kenny has been our most important signing and probably our most consistent player since we came up. He is superb readre of the game and the centre of our defence in every way. Without hime we would no way be where we are now IMO. But time is not on his side and he is sometimes exposed against fast clever teams competing with us for Europe ( although not against Arsenal at the end of the seqason funnily enough) Also I reckon Upson will be gone to one of those teams at the end of the season if not before It must surely be easier to attract a top class defender to the blues than a prima donna striker or midfielder. They dont tend to have so much personal baggage either - putting it politely! We simply must make the top ten at least this year or we will lose some of the stars. This is breakthrough or bust year for Steve Bruce. |

i keep saying it but no-one seems to listen; tebily is a good cb, and should be given a chance. he is a cb, if we're keeping him to cover for mm we might as well let him go and sign a rb.... loan players should be bowyer & woodgate!!! joke, i mean bowyer and o'shea... |

Tebz is injured at the minute though Proccy. Doubtful that he will travel to Deportivo. I agree that he is a good back up and looks better in his natural position. |

Sory to edit your post Cotswold, I agree with many of your points. I do think however KC will be used this season with the view to bringing one of the youngsters through, if this creates problems I can see us delving into the transfer market come Christmas for a CB. I do think however that the point you make hence the edit of your post about this being a make or break year for Bruce is true. He has established us in the Prem but needs to show now that he has the ability to take us to the next level, the board have backed him more than most Prem clubs the side is all his own signings, yes this year it is time for SB to stand up and be counted. This is not a negative post against SB, I just think like Cotswold SB will be more closely judged this year. I would also say that if Souness gets the sack and Blues aren't doing as well as the Board would hope don't be surprised if SB does move up to the barcodes, just my opinion.....?? |

Spot on Turunc - and if he goes, as I also suspect he will because of the emotional pull of Newcastle, I think that we can get a better tactician like an Alan Curbishley. This is the year when Steve Bruce needs to prove that he can use players as cleverly as he signs them. ( and as he plays the board too) I hope his new back up team can help him here and we will be sorted. |
