i dont like to blow my own trumpet(well if i could i would'nt of got married)

but i told you so.

personaly i dont think we need another holding midfielder and i think his best days are behind him, but if it is true then go get him.

i'm sure clemence and nafti will welcome the competition. ;)

as others have pointed out, he was englands best player at the 2002 world cup..he dont become a bad player in 3 years, he just needs sb's tender touch and he'll be great again imo.......... ;)

Proccy, mate : the saying is overnight! in 3 years your legs can go, lung capacity eyes, anything mate in three yrs, my waist line proves that!!!

IMO all this talk of whether he is good enough is irrelevant at the moment. This article has come from The Mirror and is just a repeat of 6 or 7 similar aticles throughout the summer.

Bruce has denied once that he is not interested in Butt, so until he comes out and retracts that statement lets just see what develops. ;)

Have to agree, he has done very little in the last 3 years and was kept out of the Manure team by Phil Neville!!! He was in his prime at that world cup he is now past his best IMO,

The 1 signing I thought was a mistake last year was Gronks, I really hope this is not this seasons mistake, if we offer Newcastle £2M they will snatch our hands off, we would be doing them a favour getting him off the wage bill.

If he comes I will give him my full backing, as I did Gronks and I hope he is a big success, but I think it will be a mistake.

Nicky Butt at 30 yrs old - is only a short term fix.

I consider that we got the best out of Gobby Cabbage, after his move to Welshburn he has struggled with injury and the first thing to go are a footballers legs!
The mind is willing and all that ......

I do not doubt that Nicky Butt would be a improvement on the current squad an at 2 million for a possible 2 year contract - possibly not a bad bit of business?

lmao, nice one - of course, your waistline is probably not a result of training to the level of olympic athletes - maybe more beer than training eh?
i still think with the right motivation he could could be a good player again, he clearly isn't enjoying sounness's style of management. linking up with sb could be just what he needs...
also, some people improve with age...like me...

Agree. Although I think Souness is in a better position than Bruce. His Board are going all out to make Newcastle a top four side. The quality of his signings prove that.

At this moment in time they are on a higher level than us (despite similar league positions). So while Butt may not be of the quality that they require, for us he would be a good signing.

It's either that or we start playing the same game as Newcastle, Boro and Spurs and invest more money in our playing staff. Somehow I think we have different priorities though.

Good point, souness is not the best man manager about is he? IMO it would be a bit of a gamble taking Butt, like has been said he hasn't been very good for 2 or 3 seasons now, and lets face it he couldn't get in a very average Newcastle team last season could he?

He wouldn't be my first choice or even my third but if SB thinks he can be good for us i'll give him the benefit of the doubt ;)

You also lose your marbles! :P

Now IF this IS true and it is a big IF, then he'd be a good addition. He might not be what he was, but he'll certainly bring experience and can still play football. He didn't do a bad job at St Andy's for the Toon last season.
IMO tho its the injury factor that will take its toll. Older players take longer to recover than young ones, and Butt had a few last season.

It would make the Nafti deal look slightly strange.

Sean Davis would be a better fit for our team, and also being younger would only help.

Spoke to a few Spurs fans and they have all said forget about getting Sean Davis, Jol loves him the club loves him and the fans adore him and he loves the club.

At the end of the day the money men often force the position but Spurs don't seem like a club needing to sell at the moment!!

i think at this moment our priorities have to be different; we are building a squad up here whereas newcastle have been buying players for years on the back of a wealthy board and 60000 crowds every week!! different scenario to averaging 28000, and means we can never compete on a level playing field; the same can be said of spurs (avg 38000) boro ( 35000) and man city (40000). this is why the new stadium, or adequate expansion at standys, is vital. if you can only afford to buy a ford fiesta, you cant really expect to race with ferrari's can ya?

I think Butt is still a very good player, however the downside to all of this, is that he is another defensive minded midfielder. I trust that Brucie has got some attacking players up his sleeve, or it will be a trifle difficult to score goals next season, even with the best forwards in the world.....

On loan its a brilliant idea, means we have money left for a defender.

Plus come next year Butt will be 31 and hence worth even less should we want to buy him.
