Imagine a line up of:

__________________Taylor__________________

Melchiot___Cunningham___Upson_____Bernard/Bridge

Pennant_______Izzet____Graveson________Dunn

_______________Heskey___Forssell___________

Subs from: Vaesen, Tebily, Taylor, Clapham, Kilkenny, Clemence, Johnson, Lazardis, Pandiani, Kuqi

Now I know we haven't signed Bernard/Bridge(loan) up (yet), and Graveson is pure speculation on my part, but surely this side is top 8 material? Maybe even better?

If you take a look at the Bolton and Everton squad I believe that with these two addition and another centre back on loan, (Robert Huth perhaps) we would have a much better team on paper and look where they finished this season!!!

The way I see it, the sky really is the limit if we sign up these players before the big kick-off (In order of priority)

A COMMANDING MIDFIELDER
1 of Graveson/Geremi/Bowyer/Davis/Butt/Other?

A CENTRE BACK - TO ALTERNATE WITH KC
Robert Huth on loan? worth a try ;)

A LEFT BACK
1 of Bridge/Bernard (although I do think Clapham is a great left back)

KRO

We're all doing the EUROPE dance!!!

If we got Gravesen, Huth & Bridge we'd walk into europe, i cant see us getting all of them though.

We are so close at the moment, our strikeforce is awsome, our right hand side is awsome, weve got a great goalkeeper, so many positives.

If we ccould get those extra couple of players we will be in for the best season in the clubs history.

Most of them use planes these days don't they? (Apart from Bergkamp of course)
It's a pretty tough swim I understand.

The thing is saying top 8, you are saying we have a squad as good as these possible teams. Newcastle, Everton, Middlesvilla,Boltan Spurs, Man City, Villa and Chalton...I honestly think that at this stage with the squad we have, yes we can challenge those teams but most of them imo have got better more expearanced sides.

out of that bunch of teams you quote, imo we have a better squad than everton, bolton, man city, vile and charlton...undecided about middlesvilla who i think will find zenden a big miss....spurs? well, who knows? they've signed loads of players and we all saw what that can mean....none of those teams scare me if we can keep our best players fit...come on, look at it man for man, we can challenge and beat these teams this season, and europe is a possibility........

Man City have a very small squad and they will feel the lose of SWP a lot harder than they think thye will. Mid table is the highest I can see them getting.

Newcastle have the making of a good team but I dont feel they have the manager to get the best out of them. Also they only have Shearer (wont play all games) and Ameobi (makes Mozza look world class) as stikers so this could be a big big problem for them. Just achieve a top 10 finish.

Middlesvilla have too many young inexperienced players in their team and they will feel the loss of Zenden. Yak is a good player but is inconsistent. Top 8 is the best they can look for.

Everton will fall apart this season. They have only added Davies and a defender to the squad and they will be playing more games (if they qualify for Europe). Can see them struggling to reach top 10

Bolton are about the only ones I can see repeating their European qualification. Great manager who knows what players to get. he may need to get in some younger players first.

Charlton have made a few good additions to the squad but I feel they have had 1 manager for too long and they have stagnated. They will start off brightly and fade towards the mid table as usual.

Villa - Phillips will prove to be a good buy. yes we all laugh at the age of him but he has got goals in him. Still think our squad is much better than theirs. Top 10 if lucky.

Spurs will be the suprise package this season. They have brought some great young players who will serve them for a long time. Jol is a fantastic manager who will bring th best out in his players. Top 5 for them.

If things go out way this season, then i honestyly feel we can be looking at challenging all of these teams to a top 8 finish.

Very interesting analysis by StA's, I always enjoy your posts on these issues.

I think you might be right about Spurs, interested in your thoughts on Fulham cause I feel they may be in big trouble this season, especially as they get a few injuries.

i tell you what st.andys, if spurs finish top 5 i'll donate £25 to the ladies team. i think they'll have the same problems with integrating their new players that we had...we've learned from last season, and bringing in shed loads of new players doesn't work....same for newcastle if they aint careful...... ;)

Thats an extra £25 for the ladies team pot then ;) It may take them a good few games, but they will settle down and have a great run and just get 5th place.

Aussiebrum - in respect to Fulham. If they managed to hold onto Diop, Boa Morte and Malbranque then I think they might JUST be ok. Their problem is going to be getting the goals now Andy Cole has gone. Not sure whether Elrich is going to work out for them, you will probably have seen more of him playing that I have. I do remember Blues taking a look at him in Jan and deciding against it. As you say, a few injuries to key players and then they are bound for relegation.

If Fulham keep Boa Morte and Malbranque then they will be mid-table again.
I think Heider Helguson has got enough goals in him to replace andy cole who wasn't exactly prolific for them last season!

Agree with your thoughts on Spurs, I think they will do very well next season. I don't agree with the taking time for the players to gel as I don't think the starting line-up will be THAT much different than last season. A lot of the players they have signed are young players who will be brought into the side gradually.

If we have a good early run (think we can possibly win our first 6 games) we will have a good season, providing we stay relatively injury free. With Pandiani on board we will have good competition up front for a change, rather than just replacements if a player is injured, suspended etc.
