Nicky Butt a has been?

Too right he is.

He HAS BEEN up to collect League Cup winners medals, FA Cup winners medals, Premiership Chapions medals, a Champions League medal and loads of England caps too.

I'd rather have a player who HAS BEEN a major part in the Man utd machine for almost a decade winning everything in sight from the Charity Shield to the Champions League.

I would rather sign a player of Nicky Butts calibre than live with the has beens who are still living in 1981 along with has beens from clubs noone has ever heard of.

I think this is a good point, i was just watching sky sports and they were showing all the times Butt has been vital in trophy winning man u teams from the champions leauge to the premiership title.

I think its easy to forget just how good Butt was and you dont just loose it all overnight.

The guy has had a bad season at Newcastle but if anyone will get his career back on track it will be Bruce and at 30 years old he is still in his prime.

Butt is the sort of player who has the class to get us into the top 7 and make the uefa cup, and on a loan deal first he really is a very clever signing.

Im just surprised at Newcastle really, why would you loan a good player to one of your main premiership rivals????? I know they have loads of great midfielders but if Butt has a blinding season and we finish above Newcastle then Souness would really be in for some stick, heres hoping!!

Just had a thought...

As it's only a loan signing, Butt won't be able to play against Newcastle next season. Don't matter, we'll beat them anyway! lol

As he is on loan is a very decent signing, but would not have wanted to pay £m's for him. Will be a good bit of experience for a year.

My main worry is that both Butt and Izzet are in their 30's and will not be the most mobile central partnership. So, how about some kind of bid for Richardson from Man U - probably on loan, again. It would give him a achance to show his skill in a better team than WBA, and would provide some mobility in the middle, or even on the wingm with Dunn alongside Butt.

i ahve been a bit mean to butt in the past but i got thinking about his personal problems and his injury.

but that did'nt sway me because i realised who his manager was and then it all fell into place.

but did have a bad season but SB has proved he can get the best out of players so i think he will be a good signing.

and because he is on loan he wont be able to play against newcastle so i think that had a lot to do with it.

Graham Souness isn't a good man manager at all. It's his way or the highway.

Butt played 27 times for Newcastle last season. It would have been a difficult season for him wherever he went as it was his first ever season away from Old Trafford since he was a kid.

Steve Bruce is far better manager than Souness could ever wish to become. Butt will shine for us.

I see yet again BCFC never learn their lesson year after year, decade after decade.
For the 1,000 time in our history we sign yet another player who is over 30,well past his better days and wanting a final pay packet.

And we get surprised as to how a big city club like us dont win anything?.............

you can never get the perfect 11, and certainly not over night, but Butt has got to be a good stepping stone towards it

its is a name to attract others

like heskey last summer, dunn the summer before that and savage the year before that.

a big part of signing a player of butts ilk is in encouraging others to come.

he is a good footballer and for that alone i am grateful he is chosen to come to our club, but added to the name and all he has won in the game previously, it might encourage the likes of parker to maybe next time choose us instead of newcastle, or bellamy instead of blackburn

sometimes there is more to a player than just there footballing ability.

so look at the positives for once. we have a player who is not over the hill (30 is not these days whatever you may think), who has chosen to join our club, and will offer us massive amounts of experience that will help the younger and older players alike at our club improve.

we never could have got this player in his prime (2-3 years ago) and we still cannot get players of his ability in their prime as we are not a big enough club at present to attract them.

but at the end of the day i would rather have a couple of seaons of butt at 30 - 31 than a journey man prem player at 26 - 27 who might offer us more years but never be as good

Butt never really fulfilled his early promise. Too hot-headed and, as he's aged, has slowed - hence his last-ditch hacking tackles. I fear a big increase in our fouls and yellow/red card tally. Even so, he is a handy player to have on loan but I imagine many Blues fans would have been disappointed if we'd bought him. Hope he shakes off his 'what am I doing here?' syndrome and settles in at St Andrews.

hopefully having the United connection with Steve Bruce, we might be able to get him back to his best.

I am absolutely chuffed by this bit of business.

If Butt gets anywhere near back to his 2002 form he will make our season. Even if he doesn't he is better that we've got & we've money left in the kitty.

For those unwilling to put their faith in an unfashionable, ex-international whose best days are supposedly behind him... does this ring any bells ?

"He used to be s****, but now he's alright...."

Good piece of business agreed. time to offload Anderton rather than Clemence

I agree, Anderton should now really drop a division and play regularly. I can't see him getting a sniff this season. He lacks pace and would be a good signing for a Championship side.

Wigan were rumoured to be after him.

As much as I dont want to see him go, he may think it will be best for him. He still has something to offer this club if he can accept a bit part role. He is one of the best passers of the ball and his vision is still excellent. I would like him to stay and eventually move over onto the coachign staff as his experience and skill would benefit the youth players.

You have to be a wind up merchant eva.Anderton you would like to keep?
Tell me what is he ever going to win you?
I could just see a player like him being kept at liverpool, newcastle etc
Typical un-ambitious blues fan.

Definately a good piece of business. If it don't work out we just give him back at the end of the season. I'm sure it will though.

Didn't wanna come here last year, so i doubt his reasons for coming here, but coming down a class mite make him think hes here for the money, like welsh w*nker, hu i though we were payin way too much for. But, to be fair, he is a class act on his day, i just hope we can get the most of him, and rekindle his 2002 WC appearances!

Good piece of business by Brucey and the board
Butt was capped for England as recently as November 2004 and if he can recapture his Man United form, should do a great job for us
Win Win situation as he's on loan for a year

He is head and shoulders above any other defensive midfield player we have at this club at the minute (nafti imo comes closest). A step in the right direction for definite and a good bit of business on a years loan. Cant really lose can we? A good signing imo, not world beating but good.
